Liberals' War On Fast Food

Sorry?

Cool.

Let's see how that works out.

On St. Marks Street, a couple of years ago, they opened a fully automated Japanese fast food place. It closed in several months.

And in my super market, Key Food on McGuiness? They have an automated check out, no one uses.

Gotta love conservatives though.

They call people on unemployment, lazy.
They call people who actually work and are advocating for more pay, commies.
They call people with more money than there are stars in the universe and are moving jobs to foreign countries that pay pennies on the dollar, heroes..while cheering on automation that kills jobs.

I mean..what-the-fuck.

So, you would rather everyone lose their job. Let's see how that works out for ya.

Liberals claim this is about income inequality. This is far from the truth. This is about creating another divisive issue. Nothing more.

Today there is a nationwide March against McDonald's to protest unfair wages. Paid protesters marching for fair wages organized n the usual suspects. Socialist/Marxist labor groups acting like they only want to look out for the poor.

What happens when the costs cancel out profits? You guessed it. Prices go up. Who suffers the most from inflation?

The poor.

What happens when your customers stop buying your product? Layoffs.

So who is really getting screwed by these protesters?

The employee.

Agreed, but...

It is not a war on fast food. It is a war on capitalism. They advocate a budget-breaking increase in the minimum wage in industries that obviously don't warrant such high wages, and then confuse the issue, for political gain, by confusing the minimum, starting wage with the statist, socialist notion of a living wage, which has nothing to do with worth and everything to do with the managed outcomes. A failure by any measure. It is so easy to undermine the liberal agenda.

Um, Liberals?

These are workers trying to form a Union. That is the ONLY way to get fair wages in this country. Reagan broke the Unions in the 80s, and social mobility came to a halt. People who work for a living in the private sectors have been led by the nose with corporate heads demanding greater productivity. The greater productivity has happened. Sharing the profits has not.

People are tired of the bullshit.

And Unions? They aren't marxist. They've actually brought DOWN communist governments.

Commies and Fascists absolutely despise Unions.

Speaking of being "tired of Bullshit," the comment that "social mobility came to a halt" during the 1980's and only because of some intangible link to Unions being broken by Reagan is more than a little bullshit.

Since the 1940’s, the chances of rising from the lower-middle class to the upper class has been steadily dropping

Well no.

It's not bullshit.

But hey..let's hear your solutions to social mobility.

I mean outside the "flat tax" and "cut regulations" crapola.

Giving more money to rich people generally hasn't worked in the past.

I'll be happy to expound, but will not waste time with anyone who cannot admit that, "Reagan broke the Unions in the 80s, and social mobility came to a halt" is BULLSHIT.
:bsflag::bsflag:

Of course you can't "expound".

Because it would probably involve some "Austrian" bullshit mixed with Randian super citizen stuff.

The fact remains that Unions, Education, Regulations, and Minimum Wages coupled with Government Jobs, actually help raise people from poverty.

Having a small Billionaires Boys Club, doesn't.

"The fact remains" that your comment, "Reagan broke the Unions in the 80s, and social mobility came to a halt" demonstrates a ignorance so profound that you have no credibility onto which to base much of an opinion about the subject of social mobility.

Thanks for playing.

Oh.

This is a declare victory thing.

The creation of a real middle class occurred after the New Deal.

Before that? No real or substantial Middle Class in this country.

Pulling up some chart with no link doesn't, at all, back your claim there's been no social mobility in this country since the 40s.

THAT'S BULLSHIT.

The link is below the chart, I'm always willing to help the handicapped:

Except a curious thing happens when you raise wages in this country..and most modern industrialized nations.

The economy gets better.

Put money in the hands of more people, means there are more people with money.

Put money in the hands of a few people, means there are few people with money.

And in economies that depend 70% or so, on consumers? Which do you think works out better?

I know. It's a tough question.

Let them complain when they have no jobs at all. It only makes sense to forgo human workers. Less chance of orders getting screwed up, an end to robberies.
The technology already exists to pretty much make fast-food outlets operate using robotics.
Watch how many fast food outlets begin replacing $15.00 hour simians with robotics.
The only reason this hasn't happened industry-wide is b/c the franchise owners up till now could pay minimum wage and make about 2-3% net profit.
The only reason so many people wanted to be franchise owners is b/c even though the profit margin is WAY below other profit margins the guaranteed volume in sales make fast food a solid business to be in.
Reduce the low net profit and a franchise owner is better off closing the business and starting an auto parts store. Or moving to robotics.

Sure it does.

And it did as far back as the 1900s.

We called them automats.

Automat - Wikipedia the free encyclopedia

How'd they work out?

They worked out very very well! The only reason why the old automats failed is because the cashier machines could not take paper money. The technology wasn't that advanced. Automated fast food is growing in Europe and Japan.

You've been to Europe and Japan, I gather?

When I was there, automats were basically in places that people couldn't set up shop. Like on Subway platforms and train stations.

Otherwise? There are a plethora of food places with real live people working in them.
The Fast-Food Restaurants That Require Few Human Workers All Tech Considered NPR
Today, Amsterdam's Febo chain of stores feature only vending-machine service for burgers, fries and more. A few employees are responsible for stocking the items behind the machines but way out of customer view, so you can walk up, drop in your coins and get a hot meal after a long night out without talking to anyone face-to-face.
Japan also has a version of automats, known there as shokkenki. There, you choose the meal you want and purchase a ticket for it, then you hand in your ticket to the cook behind the counter. I guess this eliminates the role for the person who takes your order at the register

Maybe you were there awhile ago and don't know about automating fast food in other countries.

In Europe which has higher wages than here, the change over is already happening.

McDonald s orders 7 000 touchscreen kiosks to replace cashiers - Neowin

McDonald's recently added 64,000 people to its payroll in the United States, but job prospects in Europe for those so inclined to work in the fast food industry are looking pretty grim right about now. That's because the fast food giant is poised to add touchscreen kiosks in more than 7,000 of its restaurants in Europe in effort to replace actual, human cashiers.

The argument is over. It's going to happen. Fighting and protesting for $15.00 an hour for a job worth 7 will only hasten the demise of the human fast food worker.

Sorry?

Have you been to either Japan or Europe?

I did. In Japan they don't have chairs in McDonald's. Everyone stands around tables. Germans seem to barely tolerate working at McDonald's. Course being there and working as a citizen are a bit different.

Why do you believe that unskilled labor should be paid the same as someone that has been there for a year or more and has mastered the task given? Because £ guarantee you there is not enough profit now to increase that person's wage. Automation will become the norm, rather than the exception. The average franchise, after expenses, brings in around $160,000 per year. Their average crew payroll is $540,000 a year. Let's assume half of that payroll is employees making $8 an hour. That $540,000 payroll Iis suddenly now costing them

Why do you believe that unskilled labor should be paid the same as someone that has been there for a year or more and has mastered the task given? Because £ guarantee you there is not enough profit now to increase that person's wage. Automation will become the norm, rather than the exception. What do you imagine a franchise has as income after all expenses in a year ?

That kind of isn't in the post.

And?

This isn't what these folks are advocating for.

They are advocating for a starting wage of 15 an hour.

That really isn't much. Considering what executives at the same corporation makes?

It's a pittance.

If you think automation will be the norm? Unionizing isn't a problem.

an hour.
Sorry?

Have you been to either Japan or Europe?

The average franchise, after expenses, has around $160,000 a year left. Their average crew payroll is $540,000 a year. Let's assume that havef of that payroll is for those making $8 an hour. That $540,000 payroll suddenly grows to $685,875. A difference of $145, 875. Suddenly that franchise is seeing a profit of $14,125 a year. Now you tell me, is that going to be worth it? If not, if they want to survive, what will have to happen? Fire some people, go with autmation for some of the employees, raise prices or what? You, along with many others seem to think you have a case when you refuse to look at the facts. If you want to continue on, fine, but when things go awry from your expected outcome, don't come crying. The auto industry today is a prime example.

Problem is wages in this country aren't compensation for rising inflation. Stagnation in workers' wages is more common than not. Make more the government takes more. Move up one square and they boot you back two.

What inflation?

No one except the far right is even remotely complaining about inflation.
