Harvard is way down the list at number 34!! STEM STEM STEM. There is no money if you get a degree in sociology or theology or history or french lit or any of that easy liberal arts crap. Technical skills are the only ones that count.

The list comes courtesy of salary database startup PayScale, which recently released their annual rankings of U.S. colleges, re-weighted by job-market success. A few name brand schools, such as Stanford and MIT, do make the top 10. But California’s tech-oriented Harvey Mudd school ranks #1, with an average return on investment (ROI) of nearly $1,000,000 over 20 years.

Nearly every top ranked school specializes in technology. Caltech and Stanford are feeder schools for the top tech companies in the world. The smaller schools, such as Babson, are laser-focused on teaching valuable market skills.

College is not viewed as an investment, and it should be. Way too many parents and students are taking on enormous school loan debt to get a degree that will not produce enough income to EVER pay off the debt and build any net worth. That is a recipe for financial failure. So yes either earn a technical degree or learn a trade or go into business for yourself.
