? By GUARANTEEING he will be hated by his own party? He and Sinema both will be attacked and almost certainly primaried in their next elections. The guy is like most other politicians in that he knows his constituency but I think he also grasps the very real danger of allowing his party the chance to ram through actual tyranny. If they dump the filibuster they WILL demand HR1 passage and that will make America a single-party nation. THAT will lead to a shooting Civil War OR a major secessionist movement. Thank you for that opinion; however, he has personally demonstrated this is not true, and the history of his service in which he has remained a moderate Democrat has proven this is not the case.

This debt ceiling crap is entirely democrat-created. They could've done everything they needed to do months ago to pass that through reconciliation, they knew the GOP weren't going to support raising the debt limit so they could spend gobs of money. They knew it but intentionally did nothing so they could put the squeeze on the repubs and try to make them the bad guy. Which is 100% total horseshit. When you want to pass trillions of dollars without payfors, then you should be prepared to take responsibility for it and those effin' democrats don't want to do that.

Latest I heard is that McConnell is agreeing to a temporary increase in the debt ceiling until December, so the dems do in fact have time to do the thing through reconciliation.
