Massive crack in earth mysteriously opens up in Bighorn Mountains

Nope. Not seismic in the least. Read the link I provided if you would like to learn about the process.
It is necessarily seismic. Any earth movement of scale is.

So, Bush's Fault then? If Obama can rename a mountain in Alaska, he can certainly name something like this. It would be a poignant part of his legacy.

Wrong. Seismic activity specifically deals with actions along the seismic plates of the crust of the Earth. This had nothing to do with that. This was a normal action of gravity, combined with a weak strata, acted upon by water, which coupled with the strata being beyond the angle of repose resulted in a "slump" or "disambiguation" if you prefer, which are elements of mass wasting which can indeed be triggered by seismic events, though this one wasn't, but which are in and of themselves not seismic in nature.

Psst...seismic: the definition of seismic

When you take a step and set your foot down, you generate a seismic wave.

Eat a big enough bean burrito, and you can do it intestinally.

.

Shhhhhh... From your link....A vibration IS an earthquake. Earthquakes are caused by crustal plates relieving stress through EARTHQUAKES..... Shhhh....

Earth movement through artificial or natural causes. If you fart loud enough, you are seismic. Just take care that I am not in the camping tent when you do the experiment...

I provided you with a link as well. If you can't be bothered to click on it:

An earthquake (also known as a quake, tremor or temblor) is the perceptible shaking of the surface of the Earth, which can be violent enough to destroy major buildings and kill thousands of people.

Where do earthquakes originate?

I'll wait.
Released energy, of course.

Westwall, I am a geophysicist, and you are confused...how can I help?

I'm a geologist. Where do earthquakes originate? It's a simple question.

From where?
Anywhere, from faults to meteorites, from man made explosions to even farts, given that they are of epic proportions.

What's obama have to do with this? Unless you think it's from fracking which did become necessary thanks to obama's energy policy stifling traditional drilling.
That's funny...Did you know that traditional drilling does not occur after you have drained traditional sources?

Seismology is the study of earthquakes, faults and the way they propagate through the earth.. 'Seismic' waves can be generated by explosions and meteorite impacts to be sure, but mass wasting is not a seismic process. Some slumps occur rapidly enough that they do indeed generate a seismic wave but not all.

It is an error to ascribe all earth movements to seismic activity.

A Geologist? This explains much.

Earthquakes originate from a focal point. Either naturally or artificially induced.

I am going to guess that you do not want me to go into the partial differential equations which describe seismic wave propagation. The equations can even be found in Wiki.

The Bighorn mountains is part of the Rocky Mountain Range. Which is where the Yellowstone caldera is.

The fact that you would even begin to use wiki causes me worry. I fully understand the difference's between P waves, Rayleigh waves, Love waves and the like.

This is just a discussion about the definition of the word 'seismic'. The word includes other phenomena besides earthquakes generated at plate boundaries. The term is general in nature, not that specific.

Which is true, however the majority of people associate seismic with fault motion. Mass wasting is an entirely different process which is why I was being so specific.

Thanks, Obama.

SNS Outfitter & Guides

Hunters on a private ranch in the Bighorn Mountains of Wyoming stumbled upon an incredible and mysterious scene: a massive crack in the earth that in some places resembles a mini Grand Canyon.

SNS Outfitter & Guides first reported the anomaly on its Facebook page on Friday, saying it “appeared in the last two weeks on a ranch we hunt in the Bighorn Mountains. Everyone here is calling it ‘the gash.’ It’s a really incredible sight.”

With no earthquakes reported in the area, locals were stunned and at a loss to explain the shift of soil and rocks that left the gaping crack estimated to be 750 yards long by 50 yards wide.

The opening is said to be located 10 miles south of Tensleep, Wyoming, in the foothills of the Bighorn Mountains.

Obviously seismic. Let's call it Bush's Fault!

That still really bothers you, doesn't it?

It bothers me that no one in the Obama administration can spell the word 'Denial'....
