Math teacher escorted out by police, set to be fired for opposing planned parenthood

Sounds like this teacher crossed the line. He has a right to his views, but he can't block a presentation by Teen Outreach Program.

He was insubordinate in doing so. Thats why he is being fired. I believe he is free to express his views in class- IF and only if they are related to the subject matter. Remember right wingers hate left wing teachers preaching their gospel in class. But, I think if this teacher's opposition to planned parenthood is part of a related topic he is tasked with teaching, then fine, that other view should absolutely be allowed.

Not going along to get along will have consequences within ANY organization.

This teacher doesn't have to 'go along', he just can't obstruct or stop presentations. He should leave the classroom while the presentation is being given by the Teen Outreach Program.

Okay I see where your coming from, a religous group wouldn't have a chance to get in, but it's okay to teach kids our kids abortion isn't killing a living baby.

Planned Parenthood school presentations do not talk about abortion; they talk about birth control. They DO NOT give advice on abortion. Just because they do abortions, that does not mean they go into schools to "teach our kids abortion isn't killing a living baby." They don't 'teach' them anything about abortion, they teach them about preventing an unwanted pregnancy.

Preventing a unwanted pregnancy is abortion. So esmaranda I would disagree. Abortion to the left is their #1 concern.

No, it is your number one concern. It is people like you who make such a major issue out of it. :cuckoo:

Preventing an unwanted pregnancy IS abortion? Seriously? Double :cuckoo::cuckoo:

School districts have school boards. For any group to make a presentation in a classroom would need approval. Parents and taxpayers can attend any board meeting and voice their views.

This teacher decided that his views trump the district's, the board and ultimately the parents and taxpayers. He has every right to his views. But he can't stop someone from making a presentation.

I am sure that is not what they teach or even talk about. But carry on. Planned Parenthood is the BEST way of preventing abortions. Birth control and education can prevent a girl from putting herself in that position. Why don't you think instead of emoting?
Exactly!

So the OP and The Blaze are proven once again to be liars.

What a surprise.

One fails to see why the right even bothers to cite The Blaze, The Daily Caller, or Breitbart, among many others, as ‘sources,’ given their records for half-truths, distortion, and outright lying. The only motive by conservatives is to attempt to retell a lie over and over again in the hope it’s perceived to be ‘true.’

Hey i'm with you on educating young people on sex, but planned parent hood is mainly known for abortions, that would be like bringing phillip morris in the prevent them from smoking.

Why was a math teacher talking about abortion?

Good question. Because he is proselytizing his religious beliefs to his class. He doesn't let Planned Parenthood into his classroom to do a presentation because HE doesn't believe in them: his religious beliefs are not part of his job. He talks to his students about how wrong abortion is though he is a math teacher: again, using his 'captive audience' to proselytize. He should have been fired long ago. The school has been overly tolerant with him.

"Mainly known" depends on what garbage people watch

They are only "mainly known" for abortion to the people who are agressively anti-abortion. What they are known for by the bulk of their clients is providing information about birth control and birth control to young women all over the country. Their goal is to help young people make informed decisions, to use protection not only from pregnancy but also from STDs. To help young people PLAN for when they want a child instead of it happening because they didn't know how to prevent it.

Right. I would think they are mainly known for educating, because that is mainly what they do.

Wow!!! But some teachers can do far worst(although I think he did the right thing) and they still have their jobs:evil:

The most intransigent and daring teachers and scientists have lent their support to this great biological interpretation of the human race. The war has emphasized its necessity."

Ooh! That is remotely relevant to the topic!

Education is the key...turn off Faux News...

What does Planned Parenthood do?

Although the name Planned Parenthood clearly states the primary objective of the organization -- responsible family planning -- it has been inaccurately portrayed by opponents such as Arizona Senator Jon Kyl who famously announced on the Senate floor on April 8, 2011 that providing abortions is "well over 90 percent of what Planned Parenthood does." (Hours later, Kyle's office made it clear the senator's comment "was not intended to be a factual statement.") The senator had good reason to back down from his misrepresentation. Only 3% of Planned Parenthood's services are abortion services. The other 97% includes testing and treatment of sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, cancer screening and prevention, and pregnancy testing and prenatal services.

Answer: Below is a breakdown of all patient care services* provided by Planned Parenthood affiliate health centers in 2010:

38% - Testing of and treatment for Sexually Transmitted Diseases/Infections (STDs/STIs)
In 2010, Planned Parenthood provided a total of 4,179, 053 services which encompassed:

STI tests for women and men -3,552,955
Genital warts (HPV) treatments - 51, 197
HIV tests for women and men - 574,901

33.5% - Contraception (including reversible and permanent)
In 2010, Planned Parenthood provided a total of 3,685,437 services which encompassed:

Reversible contraception for women** - 2,219,726
Emergency contraception kits - 1,461,816
Vasectomy patients - 3, 290
Female sterilization procedures - 605

14.5% - Cancer screening and prevention
In 2010, Planned Parenthood provided a total of 1,596,741 services which encompassed:

Pap tests -769,769
Breast Exams and Breast Care - 747,607
Colposcopy procedures (for diagnosis of abnormal growth cells in the cervix) - 41,549
LOOP/LEEP procedures (treatment for abnormal growths) - 2,432
Cryotherapy procedures (treatment for abnormal growths - 1,254

Planned Parenthood does not offer mammograms at any of their affiliate health centers but will refer clients to other local providers who do.

10.4% - Other women's health services
In 2010, Planned Parenthood provided a total of 1,144,558 services which encompassed:

Pregnancy tests -1,113,460
Prenatal services - 31,098

3% - Abortion services
In 2010, Planned Parenthood conducted a total of 329, 445 abortion procedures.

0.6% - Other health services
In 2010, Planned Parenthood provided a total of 68,132 services which encompassed:

Family practice services for women and men - 35, 062
Adoption referrals to other agencies - 841
Other procedures for women and men (which include WIC services -- a federally funded nutrition program for low-income women, infants, and children up to the age of five -- as well as pediatric care and immunizations) - 32,229

-----

* As defined by Planned Parenthood, "A service is a discrete clinical interaction, such as the administration of a physical exam or STI test or the provision of a birth control method." In 2010, Planned Parenthood health centers saw approximately three million patients. Collectively, they received nearly 11 million services during nearly five million clinical visits.

Combined Hormone Patch - 2.3%
Contraceptive Implant - 0.7%
Prescription Barrier - 0.1%
Fertility Awareness-based Methods - 0.1%

Lol, would you feel the same if a religous teen program wanted to speak?

Yes I would. You wouldn't?

Well your different, most liberals want to block anything religous from schools.

My liberal atheist daughter joins her teammates in a team prayer circle before and after each of her softball games. A religious leader is invited to speak at graduation ceremonies here as well.

Our pledge, recited daily, gives a nod to religion as well.

You are an uninformed person.
