New York City Had Its First Weekend Without A Shooting In 25 Years

If only the whole country had strong NYC gun control.

New York City Had Its First Weekend Without A Shooting In 25 Years

"A city of 8.6 million people — not a single shooting for three days," Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Monday, according to CNN. "Let's thank the NYPD for what they've achieved."

So the gun control only took effect this week? What will you say when next weekend they have record shootings and gun deaths again?
Their crime rates have been low for a long time now.

Thanks to Rudy Giuliani....but don't worry, the commie mayor, deblasio, is working over time to increase the crime rate..

In 2000, during Giuliani's term as mayor, he announced that New York City was filing a lawsuit against two dozen gun manufacturers. The city alleged practices such as deliberately producing more guns than could be legally bought and ignoring illegal sales by gun distributors.

Funny that crazies always point to gun control laws.

We have very strict muder laws has that curbed murder? We have very strict fraud, kidnapping, stealing laws has any of that stopped? We have laws against illegal drugs, even a war on drugs, how many drugs are now unavailable?

Nothing changes because of laws. Criminals are till going to do what they think they can do. Sweden has very strict gun laws yet they are fighting the import by criminals of fully automatic weapons and hand grenades.
Great Britain has always had very stringent gun laws, yet people are still shot and London has now been forced to ban knives in public.

Detroit has strong anti gun laws. How well has that worked out? But for the first time New York City has a few days without a shooting and some one calls for gun bans as if the laws that have been on the books for years suddenly created a gun free utopia.
Our homicide rate is 4-5x that of countries with strong gun control. Strangely a lack of dangerous weapons everywhere seems to lower homicides.

No...our murder rate is higher because those countries have criminals who don't commit murder.......that is changing. As Europe imports violent, 3rd world males, and as Europe's social welfare state creates young males without fathers to raise them, their violent crime rates are going up.
Yes a lack of guns seems to help people murder less.

Nothing you posted is true, factual or based in reality.... more guns = less crime....that is a fact.

We went from 200 million guns in private hands in the 1990s and 4.7 million people carrying guns for self defense in 1997...to close to 400-600 million guns in private hands and over 17.25 million people carrying guns for self defense in 2018...guess what happened...

Gun Homicide Rate Down 49% Since 1993 Peak; Public Unaware

Compared with 1993, the peak of U.S. gun homicides, the firearm homicide rate was 49% lower in 2010, and there were fewer deaths, even though the nation’s population grew. The victimization rate for other violent crimes with a firearm—assaults, robberies and sex crimes—was 75% lower in 2011 than in 1993. Violent non-fatal crime victimization overall (with or without a firearm) also is down markedly (72%) over two decades.
Crime rates dropped after we got background checks. They have jumped up a little as concealed carry is getting more popular.

Wrong.....

Background checks don't stop criminals from getting guns....not even in Europe...

You keep claiming gun control worked....the only difference between New York and the other murder cities is Rudy Giuliani actually locking up violent criminals.

You are, of course, wrong.....

Don’t Take the Wrong Lessons from NYC’s Murder Drop

New York City’s formerly high-crime neighborhoods have experienced a stunning degree of gentrification over the last 15 years, thanks to the proactive-policing-induced conquest of crime. It is that gentrification which is now helping fuel the ongoing crime drop. Urban hipsters are flocking to areas that once were the purview of drug dealers and pimps, trailing in their wake legitimate commerce and street life, which further attracts law-abiding activity and residents in a virtuous cycle of increasing public safety.

The degree of demographic change is startling.

In Brooklyn’s Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood, for example, the number of white residents rose 1,235 percent from 2000 to 2015, while the black population decreased by 17 percent, reports City Lab.

In Bushwick, Brooklyn, the number of whites rose 610 percent over that same decade and a half; the black population was down 22 percent. Central Harlem’s white population rose 846 percent; the black share dropped 10 percent. In 2000, whites were about three-quarters of the black population in Brownsville-Ocean Hill; by 2015, there were twice as many whites as blacks.

In 2000, whites were one-third of the black population in Crown Heights North and Prospect Heights; now they exceed the black population by 20,000. The Brooklyn Navy Yards has now been declared the next cool place to be by the tech industry. Business owners are moving their residences as well as their enterprises to the area.

This demographic transformation has enormous implications for crime.

A black New Yorker is 50 times more likely to commit a shooting than a white New Yorker, according to perpetrator identifications provided to the police by witnesses to, and victims of, those shootings.

Those victims are overwhelmingly minority themselves.

When the racial balance of a neighborhood changes radically, given those crime disparities, its violent-crime rate will as well. (This racial crime disparity reflects the breakdown of the black family and the high percentage of black males — upwards of 80 percent in some neighborhoods — being raised by single mothers.)

----

The high-crime areas of Baltimore and Chicago have not been gentrified. Baltimore is experiencing its highest per capita murder rate for the third year in a row. While Chicago’s homicide numbers are down somewhat this year, thanks to the aggressive use of shot-spotter technology, they remain at a level far higher than in the past decade.
Do you even live in NYC dummy? Or have you ever?

The rates have been PLUMMETING all over NYC for years, not just in gentrified Brooklyn.

Try again hack.

You'll see.....democrats love crime.....it gives them power over the little people.

Lots of democrats in NYC. They seem to like the low crime.

Oddly enough, I have seen it shown here many times that such claims are inflated by including just a few very small areas. Take them away, all liberal strongholds with heavy gun control, and our gun crime figures drop precipitously. That said, if gun control is so effective, what is it doing for Detroit and DC? I'll say it again--- you can never eliminate all the guns, so far better to teach gun safety and responsibility. People taught to respect guns generally are your lowest instance of gun violence. Gun violence has risen in direct proportion to the Lefts efforts to make them an object of unavailability, restriction, scorn, fear and hate.

These idiots like Brain Dead can never answer the simple questions as to why the murder rate in the UK is higher than it was before all their gun laws started being passed in the 60's

And they will not answer the question as to why the state with some of the laxest gun laws in the country has a lower murder rate than the state with the the strictest gun laws in the country

The U.K. never had a huge gun problem, They stopped it from becoming a big problem. We didn’t try to stop it and our homicide rate is 4x higher than theirs.

Could it be they never had the 2nd amendment or the 1st???
They have a lot less homicides.
US has by far the most guns in the world. Our homicide rate is 4-5x higher than countries with strong gun control.

Freedom isn’t good for much if your dead.

So you call it "living" in a country like North Korea who has non existent gun deaths?

All countries compared for Crime > Violent crime > Gun crime > Guns per 100 residents

North Korea is under a dictator. I mean countries like Germany, France, Denmark, Japan... freedom and low homicide rates.
