They probably didn't know the body count at that time. I don't know the exact nature of how Johnson holed himself up, but he seemed to have a good handle on tactics and had thought this through. He was in a parking garage, IIRC, and there was lot of concrete around which would make a highly defensible position.

the more I think about the Dallas kill it the more I think it's the next big civil rights issue.

First I figured it was a stun grenade , but now it's more like they were out to blow up the guy.

Drones in war zones is one thing , drones used by local police is another .

Very grey area . You can use deadly force if it's a situation where you need to protect lives . But if a peep is just dealing wh a robot , is anyone's life in danger to justify deadly force ?

Well you can bet there is no constitutional law on it yet, since they did not have bots in 1789.

There have been no SCOTUS cases on it yet and no statutes at the Federal or state level.

So this is an area of completely new law.

The argument in favor of the bot is that it is safer than risking a fire. And burning-out a holed-up perp is a fairly common law enforcement procedure. The teargas usually starts the fire, as at the Branch Davidians Compound.

I don't see a problem with it unless the state legislature does.

2. The Patriot Act was passed with a majority of Democrats in favor of it including your main nominee for President.
