My controversial take on the subject is playing fast and doing a lot of widdely widdely widdley is less impressive than someone like BB who can put tons of emotion behind just one note. Playing fast takes practice playing with emotion is something you can’t be taught. The older I get the more I realize it’s not the notes I play that’s important but what I leave out and still get the reaction I want that really challenges me as a musician.

Just incorporate what sounds good to you
into your own style...you won't hear many folks saying "Hey you stole that legato phrase from Guthrie Govan !"
