The lege was correct about his support of self defense. A person should not have the burden of retreat if he or she is suffering an unprovoked attack. One should be secure in and around his person from the assault of others.

But why he would use a word like that about women is beyond me.

fair enough....in private, who cares. but this douche said it in an email, his work email. nothing in email is private. any public figure should know this. once you send something out in writing, be it papermail or email....it is public, unless protected under confidentiality laws.
