NY Fed Spends 53 Billion To Rescue Overnight Lending Market

Market Watch is reporting a $75 BILLION repurchase for one calendar (over night) day.

Fed carries out repo operation for second straight day

What does this tell US?

It tells US that in a nation that completely fails to question its' clueless leadership at the highest level, when we do finally fall flat on our collective financial ass, we will get what we voted for & what we deserve.

Enjoy the ride because it's gonna be a bitch; you won't even have to pay to get on a roller coaster.
These things if true did not start with Trump. There are massive debts that go back not a year, not a decade, not fifty years, not a hundred years, but maybe even five hundred years or so that never have been paid off. War and wars and social programs and so much more. Do you actually believe that all the collecting we do is free? All of the private pensions need a progressive tax in reverse on them to start. With the taxed money going into the pension reserves. Public pensions need to be frozen with the same progressive tax in reverse to start. With the tax money going into the pension reserves. Social Security needs to be cleaned up. Disability Social Security needs to be cleaned up. Medicare and Medicaid need to be cleaned up. massive savings can be accrued. Then common sense social welfare benefits must be instituted with a push on all living responsibly with it. There are many other programs and a lot of corruption also that can be dealt with. Military corruption and government contracts are rife with it. Do you think this is going to be done?

Where did the NY Fed get its 53 billion Federal Reserve Notes? :dunno:

They don't lend out FRNs for overnight repos. DURR!

So, you're telling us 53 billion Federal Reserve Notes didn't just spring into existence, Toddster? There's something awfully scwewy about that.

So, you're telling us 53 billion Federal Reserve Notes didn't just spring into existence,

It's electronic money, not piles of $20s.
When you sent a wire, it's electronic, not briefcases of paper money flying around the country/world.

There's something awfully scwewy about that.

Your ignorance is adorable.

to a large extent I agree with your narrative but IMO Trump just needs to STFU, allow the FED & Powell to do their job, and maybe Trump could try & do his own job while he's at it keeping his moth shut.

But we know that won't happen; why?
Because everything under the sun is ALL ABOUT DONALD........................

and there is a reason why the rates were lower then, and why the rates are higher now.

Obama's economy was really, really weak. And he was incredibly clueless.

The economy during Obama's tenure created an average 10K more jobs per month than since Trump has been in office.

Also, the DJIA experienced a 148% increase during Obama's tenure; a yearly average increase of 18.5%.

The DJIA has not performed anywhere close to that level since Trump took office.

Nice try idiot but no cigar for U.

The economy during Obama's tenure created an average 10K more jobs per month than since Trump has been in office.

And yet, so weak that the Fed kept overnight rates at 0-0.25% for his first 7 years.

And?

Oh yeah; Obama wasn't hounding the FED to do this.

And?

The Fed doesn't leave the overnight rate at 0-0.25% if your economy is awesome.

Oh yeah; Obama wasn't hounding the FED to do this.

The rate was as low as it could go, why would Obama hound the Fed to lower it?

Maybe Trump could learn something from this but he is too stupid to do that. His bad.

It's the same thing. Remember, I explained digital supplies of numbers in my "Here's how it works'' sctratchpad.

They're still creating currency irrelevant of whether it's just a supply of numbers, duh.

So. Where did they get the 53 billion supply of numbers? lol.

So, your implication is that Trump, being the genius brainiac that he is, the businessman that experienced multiple bankruptcies to the point he could NO LONGER acquire US lenders but had to resort to obtaining loans from the Russians, the Saudis, and from the Germans, is NOT clueless? PRICELESS

No, electronic money is not the same thing as FRNs.

First of all, it's not money, Toddster. Money has to have a store of value to actually be money. It's currency creation whether it's a supply of numbers or a Federal Reserve Note.

That's the thing, you don't even know what money is.

A digital IOU is the same thing as an IOU in the form of a Note.

No, you have to crack open an economic theory and monetary policy book for the relevant definition of money, Toddster. Whatsamatter wit you. lol.

To steal a quote from the Boston Federal Reserve's ''Putting it Simply", they say that ''When you or I write a check, there must be sufficient funds in our account to cover the check, but when the Federal Reserve writes a check, there is no bank deposit on which that check is drawn. When the Federal Reserve writes a check, it is creating ''money.” The Federal Reserve then hands those checks to the banks and at this point ''currency'' springs into existence.

Gosh. Wait, what do you think inflation means, Toddster? I can't wait to hear that one.

Central banks get to do that.

Wait, what do you think inflation means

Economics. a persistent, substantial rise in the general level of prices related to an increase in the volume of money and resulting in the loss of value of currency (opposed to deflation).

It tells us that there is a technical squeeze of liquidity caused by certain funding conditions in the market, and regulatory capital that must be held by banks.

Repo rates are likely to be elevated for the next few months.

It wasn't my word.

I would have used the word "wastes." Since nothing is going to be done to reverse the causes of the situation, it's going to keep happening until the economy crashes.

Again.

All of it is very unnecessary.

Conservative economics is the most irresponsible economic system.

Yes, it is necessary. This is why we have the Federal Reserve system.

What is happening in the repo markets is a result of increased regulation, new tools by the Fed to manage interest rates, and QE over the past decade.

They're loans off the Fed's balance sheet. The NY Fed supplies liquidity into the overnight repo market, which means it gets paid back the next day (or few days).
