A local news reporter, Charlie Benton highlighted the blunt assessments of Bill Munn, Mack energy director of investments, who spoke at the Hobbs Chamber of Commerce Thursday night. A keynote of the speech was centered around how the Keystone pipeline would have killed the Permian Basin's economy if Obama hadn't rejected phase 4 of the operation. Munn, packing an impressive array of credentials and experiences under his belt, said:
"if President Barack Obama had not rejected phase four of the Keystone Pipeline, the results would have been disastrous for both Hobbs and the Permian Basin due to the flood of Canadian oil entering the U.S. market."
āObama didnāt kill that to help Hobbs, but think about this: Had that been approved and you brought that thing down here, thatās a million barrels into this market. Weād be sharing cereal here tonight,ā he said. āThereās always a twist. One of the candidates said, āWeāre going to create 40,000 jobs,ā well theyāre going to create some construction jobs, and then 150 people are going to manage that thing ... Iām just saying itās a blessing that thing didnāt come down here. Why do we need it down here immediately? Letās leave it up there, and when we need it, weāll use it.ā
