Boston bombs: Obama lulled America into false confidence over terror threat

The war on terror cannot be fought at an arm's length - and the attacks on Boston have brought uncertainty back to American streets

In his State of the Union address to the American people earlier this year, Barack Obama declared that he was "confident" of achieving "our objective of defeating the core of al-Qaeda".

Although he acknowledged the need to pursue the "remnants" of the terrorist group and its affiliates, the overall message was clear – al-Qaeda was badly degraded, the tides of war were receding and the US was winning this fight that was no longer even officially a war.

Mr Obama and his intelligence community know the threat from al-Qaeda affiliates, but have chosen to downplay it to the US public.

Is there anything more than needed to be added.

So, what exactly did "Obama killing bin Laden" accomplish?

I am glad Obama killed OBL (but reports say it took a LOT of urging from to get Obama to finally give the go ahead on that). But it seems the message after that was "war over, we can relax now."

Like the Titanic the country fell into complacency and like the Titanic, complacency and kill you.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Who lulled Bush into not doing anything about 911? He attempted to go into Afghanistan but he didn't follow through. He even said Bin Laden never even entered his mind anymore. Not that anything could enter that block of concrete anyway.

We wasted lives, years and a ton of money during the Bush years or are you blocking those years out too?

It seems a president's job is to keep the American people in a high state of tension and anxiety. This is why FDR with his speech on fear was such a failure. Fear is a most effective political tool, notice the use of fear just on these boards all to make us think like the poster.

Who can argue with the evidence of "reports say"?

I guess the rightwing nuthouse now supports a federally mandated indefinite ban on all outdoor sports events.

So the same inmates from the rightwing nuthouse who've been insisting for months that no government measures could have prevented the Sandy Hook massacre (in order to defend their extremist gun positions)

now want to tell us that Obama could have singlehandedly prevented the Boston attack.

You people really try too hard. lol
