Obama pays tribute to the war machine in SOTU

Obama praised an army sargent who sacrificed his future for the profits of the military industrial complex in Afghanistan. And he didn't pay tribute to Pete Seeger, who did a lot more for the peace, love and brotherhood of America. That proves Obama is more of a con than a liberal.
I think it's a pretty pitiful state of the union, that praising the war machine is the highlight of Obama's speech. And all the applause was like, "thanks chump".

A heavily decorated Marine who was honorably discharged in 1985 now faces a new reality: paralyzed below the waist from a blood clot that occurred during surgery late in December of 2013, Robert Miller is being denied VA benefits.

Nancy Houser wrote a fantastic piece on the matter for Digital Journal.

As noted by Way Cool Dogs, Miller was deployed to Lebanon between 1980 and 1985, where he sustained injuries to his back, legs, and arms. A sergeant, Miller was part of a 4,000 member Marine platoon that was deployed with “peacekeeping intentions.”

Peaceable intentions or not, the platoon’s deployment and condition in Beirut deteriorated as suicide bombers took their toll. In 1983, in what was at that time history’s largest explosion of a non-nuclear bomb, 200 marines were killed when a suicide bomber drove a TNT laden car into the marine barracks.

Pete Seeger was a great American who enriched this nation with his devoton to folk music and environment. That Army Sargent is also a great American, who has sacrificed much for this nation. Enlisted men do not make the decisions. But they carry the burden of making this natons policies work.

As g5000 says we were the other superpower. Maybe it was not fair that we got that role but we did. Even more than the direct defeat of the Reds look at what happened in Eastern Europe directly after. The Soviet Union was a very oppressive power and how far they would have they pushed if a line had not been drawn is a question which was luckily never answered. Yes, there is definitely a military-industrial complex but that is Congressmen and contractors, not the military itself. There is a huge difference. The military has been used and is being used by those with greedy self-interests just as the government and the intelligence community is. We should not try to completely eliminate any one of those three because of the greed of the few. We should try to root out those who abuse what is good in this country.
