Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams Fox News For Laughing At Her DC Rent Problem

What a bimbo

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Slams Fox News For Laughing At Her DC Rent problem Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who this week became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, called out Fox News for belittling her struggle to afford an apartment in Washington, D.C., during a Friday panel discussion on “America’s Newsroom.”

  • The Fox panelists snickered all the way through their chat on the topic, described in a chyron as: “Self-proclaimed socialist says she can’t afford DC rent.”

Contributor Judy Miller actually laughed after host Bill Hemmer recalled that Ocasio-Cortez ― whose name no one pronounced correctly on the show ― was working in the service industry before she launched into her campaign to represent New York’s 14th District.
Shit, Republicans elected a dead man.

Nevada voters elect a dead man to state Assembly

Missouri elects dead man as senator
So? There were also Republicans who couldn’t afford rent.

‘I can’t afford an apartment’: Congressmen sleeping in offices cry poverty

WASHINGTON — These Congress members are sleeping on the job — and defending their right to do it.

Crying poverty amid decade-long stagnant salaries and Washington’s steep cost of living, an increasing number of House lawmakers have turned into professional squatters at night, hitting the sack in their Capitol Hill offices — on everything from cots in closets to futons stashed behind constituent couches — to save a few bucks during the work week.

“Washington is too expensive,” said Rep. Dan Donovan (R-SI), who credits the cot that he sleeps on in a tiny alcove in his office as the reason he is able to serve in Congress while still paying his New York City housing costs.

what does that have to do with dead men being elected?

Or didn't you read the post you're referring to?

Just think of the money they have saved.

Remember, congress critters HAVE TO keep their homes or apartments in their districts as well, in order to serve that State district.

How in the hell did she afford to pay rent in NYC? Just as expensive as DC is isn't it?
Rent control in New York....? or she was in a co-op, or she had a roommate or two or three,or lived with family...?

Yes, rents in DC where a congressman would live and is safer, are very expensive...

There is great demand for these safer areas from not only Congress Critters, but also, law firms and Lobbyists, and Political Action groups... high demand and a very limited area of safer Rentals would make it hard for most middle class, to live there.

She'll be getting her $170,000 plus salary in January and will probably need to bunk on someone's couch, until then....
A Congressman is living in DC on behalf of his state
The state should pick up his housing costs

and paying their wages,

take them off the Federal Payroll

You expect them to work for free?

A sure way to get only the wealthy to serve

This just blows my mind. Why the fuck are we paying PUBLIC SERVANTS that kind of money? No one in DC should get that kind of money. No wonder we're fucking broke.

You think 174k is a lot? Lol. Dude, at my company there are dozens of 30 - 35 year old women (they're all women for some reason, until you get to the 40 - 50 year old guys) making 250 - 300k a year, easy. 174k is jack shit in an area like that. The reason why they're paid that much is because without some kind of salary, what competent person would even want to work in congress when you could just go the corporate route and make hundreds of thousands more per year?

Don't get me wrong, 174k is a solid salary, but it's not gonna make you rich in DC, unless you win big in investments or something. Pretty sure lobbyists make way more.

I didn't say that.

I said make their state pay their salary.

Take if off the Federal Budget.

Prevent them from raising their salaries themselves

I agree. I never thought about it before, but if we want any honest newcomers to represent us, I think it's certainly fair considering how expensive it is to live in D.C.

This just blows my mind. Why the fuck are we paying PUBLIC SERVANTS that kind of money? No one in DC should get that kind of money. No wonder we're fucking broke.
And they haven't had a raise in 10 years, so that is what they were getting in 2008/2009....!!

They do have to maintain a home in their home state districts along with the DC place to live... they get no housing allowance, so this is probably built in to those very high salaries....?

By law, they have to maintain a residence in their home state

Being in Congress is difficult for those who are not independently wealthy

It is expensive to live in DC, and since members of Congress have to maintain two residences, some who can't afford it share apartments with other members of Congress, but they don't often go on TV and whine about it or try to blame others because they made fools of themselves.

I don’t see why states don’t maintain housing in DC. They will always have representatives there

Wait...so Republicans are denigrating those not wealthy?

What a friggin surprise

Tell me about the "elites" again

About 50 congressmen live and sleep in their own offices on a futon or roll out bed, shower in the gym in the basement for congressmen, and use the laundry service they offer at the gym.

Good for them. We need more normal, working class people in the government.

plutocracy is really not the way to go.

She is complaining that the government is flawed because she can’t get her salary until she actually starts working. This because she made zero plans to move to DC despite the fact that she knew she would be moving there since the primary.

On what planet is this normal?
