Will Kasich name a running mate soon? On Sunday, Kasich said his team had begun the vetting process. “We have some old hands now who are beginning to do that. These things come quickly, and you don't want to have yourself in position where you have got to pick somebody out of a hat."

If he did the same blunder as Cruz, he really would be finished.

Cruz is Canadian and legally can't run. Kasich however can. And, he can mop up many of Cruz's, if not all of Cruz's delegates upon the pronouncement of Cruz's ineligibility at the RNC convention or just shortly before.

The RNC leadership has its hands tied in one regard: they have a legal obligation to pick a candidate who is projected to win against Hillary instead of lose against Hillary. Cruz eliminated, Kasich picking up his and potentially Rubio's delegates as well, Trump will lose on successive ballots. Kasich will be the nominee.

So lining up a potential flock of Veeps now might be OK. But he'll officially name one at the convention. It'll probably be one that Trumpsters will like. Then, in the Fall, faced with either Hillary or Kasich and his Trump-friendly Veep, the party will unite behind the GOP candidate.

That all depends on the rules regarding picking a candidate that will win for the RNC as opposed to losing. Runs in my mind that Trump has also done some party ethical violations with his comments about women and Hispanics. He is impeachable as a candidate there. Have to look closely at the fine print in the rules book.

No matter how many votes he has, if he has violated RNC rules he may be as ineligible to represent the GOP brand as Canadian Ted Cruz is..
