Debate Now Only humans show their teeth in friendship

Humans underestimate the emotional and reasoning capabilities of animals.
Humans also overestimate their importance and intelligence in the universe as a whole.

We can't even grasp our own consciousness, let alone define it in other species.

Ok, a hippo smiling

My granny had a poodle named Johnny Lee who used to smile all the damned time. You would just be sitting there watching TV and look over and that damned thing would raise it's head and smile this evil smile. Creepiest dog ever. I swear that thing was possessed by a demon.

Again.....................Clyde the Orangutan was an animal that showed it's teeth a LOT, without exhibiting angry behavior.
Was that due to training or instinctive behavior?

Dunno if it was nature or nurture, but I do know it proves the OP's blanket statement wrong.
I know one of my dogs would laugh when I laughed at something. At first I thought it was a fluke but he consistently did it.

Hey, I've got 2 cats that actually smile when they get their ears scratched just so. Not only is that one of their weird traits, but they both also like to have their belly rubbed. If either of them decides they want their belly rubbed, they jump on the couch, roll over on their back, and smile at me.

Do your cats go nuts over cantaloupe? I've had two cats during my lifetime and both of them went nuts over cantaloupe?

On topic our border collie / cattle dog mix smiles.

You know, I haven't tried that. I might go and get some cantaloupe just to see what they do. I know they eat a lot of things that they see my roomie and me eat. Ever seen a cat eat beans? Both of mine love them.

Not beans, but when I cut open a cantaloupe they meowed as if I was cleaning shrimp.

I think I might go buy some cantaloupe tomorrow just to see what happens. Even if the cats turn their noses up at it, my roomie likes the stuff.

Use the half cantaloupe as a bowl for vanilla nut ice cream.

I started this thread in an effort to raise the human race above other animals by singling out our smile. In my view our smile is a silent form of communication between one human to another that signals friendship or in the least; not opposed too or angry to.

In my effort I shortsightedly attacked other posters for participating in this by showing pictures of other animals who seemingly appeared to be smiling.

My bad, I should have kept my mouth shut and just let the posts take us to who knows where.

Again; my bad, fellow posters; forgive me
Personally, I still believe our smile is unique

I will retreat to the side lines

:)-
Bull dogs always show their teeth.
