What more proof do you need of the influence big Pharma and their lobbyists have on both GOP and DEM congressman? All the discussion about Opiods centers on treatment of addiction. There is no discussion on drug alternatives because Opiods are a massive cash cow for drug companies who are only too happy to share the wealth with doctors who over prescribe and congressmen who vote their way. And If we lose 30 thousand people a year to overdose, oh well that's a loss they are willing to live with. Here is an excerpt from a recent article on health care bill proposals. Note that all the focus is on addiction treatment.

Repealing Medicaid expansion would deplete behavioral health coverage, which includes opioid addiction coverage, by $4.5 billion, the researchers report.

The Senate draft did include $2 billion for grants “to support substance use disorder treatment and recovery support services for individuals with mental or substance use disorders” in 2018.

But it’s not clear exactly what kind of treatment would fall into those categories.

Moreover, the $2 billion is far short of the $4.5 billion expected to be lost by repealing Medicaid expansion.

What is the biggest scam is the Federal Gov entry into how to control it. I know there are Legal and criminal Doctors over prescribing the drugs, but how about the 2017 that cuts the precription rate over the board to terminal/ chronic people who are in constant pain. What happens is the pain become uncontrolable and the only why out is suicide by drugs which increases the data base for the CDC to up the cutting of the drugs to those who need it. This is Gov out of control and stupid people running it the Progressives

This post is short on detail and long on innuendo. It sounds like you are on board with "big Pharma". Congress is talking about treating addiction. You appear to want them to arrange to offer those addicted the opportunity to become addicted to an alternative drug.
How about a link?

Doctors are HEAVILY regulated when it comes to opioid prescriptions, there is serious oversight and frequent review of doctors opioid prescriptions. Patients with chronic pain requiring long term treatment now have to sign contracts and undergo random testing to make sure they are using the medication not selling it. I think the OP's information is out of date.

Another inconvenient fact for Trump supporters: One of his campaign promises was to lower the cost of pharmaceuticals for the American people UNTIL he met in the Oval Office with the heads of Big Pharma.
He hasn't mentioned it since.

Is Trump's 4 year term over? Just relax :itsok:

The Prescriber Limits Act of 2017 requires healthcare providers to prescribe the lowest effective dose of an opioid, aiming to reduce the number of prescribed opioids on the streets and in the medicine cabinets of individuals. This piece of legislation is crucial to preventing individuals from getting hooked on opioids, as it is well-documented that individuals who become addicted to opioids often start with prescription drugs. In addition, the Start Talking Maryland Act will increase school and community-based education and awareness efforts to continue to bring attention to the crisis and to equip the state's youth with knowledge about the deadly consequences of opioids.
