Oregon Gov Commutes Sentences of Death Row Inmates

The only reason people these days fight so hard for some convicted people is because of the death penalty, and most of these fights are over the mental state of the person, or some other technicality, not the actual guilt of the person.

Yes, a whole lot of reason why these executions aren't justified.

It makes some of the victims families and friends feel better. you can't dispute that with just a blanket statement about it never doing that.
How would they feel if they found out they hung the wrong guy later?

How would they feel if they found out they hung the wrong guy later?

These aren't usually reasons, they are excuses thrown like spaghetti against the wall until something sticks.

With all the due process involved these days that isn't going to happen.

And why didn't you answer the Nuremberg question?

Due process would mean the innocent wouldn't get convicted and sent to death row to start with, but 190 people have been. 20 may have been executed even though they are innocent.

A flawed system shouldn't have an irreversible penalty.

"may".

spending 50 years and dying in prison is irreversible.

Spending 20 years is irreversible. So I guess no justice system.

STILL haven't answered me about Nuremberg.

Nope, I didn't. I ignored it because I don't care.

You can let someone out before 20 or 50 years after you find out that you screwed up.

I live in a state where we had more exonerations than executions, that's how flawed the system was before the Republican governor commuted all the death sentences because he couldn't make heads or tails of which ones were valid or not. Coerced confessions, forged evidence, it was a complete mess.

has openly defended and advocated modern versions of the very same crimes for which some of the Nuremberg defendants were hung.

When did I do that, Mormon Bob.

You are the one who wants to execute women for having abortions, the only people who did that were - the Nazis.

Incel Joe has openly defended and advocated modern versions of the very same crimes for which some of the Nuremberg defendants were hung.
When did I do that, Mormon Bob.

The use of humans as test subjects in dangerous medical experiments, without their fully-informed and freely-given consent.

That is one of the crimes for which Nazi war criminals were put to death.

The same crime, in a more modern form, took the form of people being lied to and coerced into accepting these dangerous experimental mRNA drugs now being promoted fraudulently as a preventative for an exaggerated cold/flu outbreak. We've been lied to in an effort to get us to take these drugs, and in many cases, we've been threatened with the loss of our livelihoods, and the loss of essential freedoms, in order to coerce us into taking these drugs. People have died as a result of these drugs.

Those responsible for these crimes deserve the same fate as the Nazi war criminals who were put to death for them.

You are the one who wants to execute women for having abortions, the only people who did that were - the Nazis.

You defend those who unjustifiably kill or seriously harm others, and condemn me for wishing that they be brought to justice.

The solution to this – as you’ve correctly noted – is to do away with the death penalty.

Problem solved.
Tell that to the victim's families who these scumbags impacted. Especially if the murdered was a cop. Oh but I forgot, as a far Left whackjob you think cops deserved to be killed.

Um. Wow. Really? You are comparing Covid Vaccines to Nazi experimentation? And you wonder why I question your sanity.

The point is, they worked just fine. We went from 3000 Covid deaths a day to a mere handful.

Fetuses aren't people.
They aren't counted for Census or Tax purposes.
We don't investigate miscarriages as homicides
Even when abortion was illegal, no one was charged with murder for having them or performing them.

How does executing the wrong person (which you inevitably will with a death penalty) help the victim's families?

I am staunchly against the death penalty. I don't think it is a deterrent. That being said, if we executed people 90 days after their sentence, I think the deterrent factor would skyrocket. If I've said it once, I've said it a dozen times...we need to completely overhaul our criminal justice system.

As for this ruling, I have mixed emotions. At the end of the day, I think it's a good thing to do. However, I do not like that the jury was empaneled, listened to testimony, rendered a verdict, then (likely) rendered a sentence. Then...later on a governor, overturns it? Don't get me wrong, stop all executions going forward but I don't like it when the jury system is usurped by the chief executive.
The death penalty would be a deterrent if the piece of shit criminals didn't get to lounge around on the tax payer dime for decades and were publicly executed in a horrific manner.

Um. Wow. Really? You are comparing Covid Vaccines to Nazi experimentation? And you wonder why I question your sanity.

Same crime. The use of nonconsenting human test subjects for dangerous medical experiments.

The Nuremberg Code was devised, specifically in response to these Nazi crimes. Surely, even you aren't going to try to claim that the manner in which these dangerous mRNA drugs have been pushed on us; in the way we have been lied to and coerced with threats of lost jobs and lost freedoms in order to get us to take these drugs; did not blatantly and intentionally violate the letter and intent of this Code.

  1. The voluntary consent of the human subject is absolutely essential. This means that the person involved should have legal capacity to give consent; should be situated as to be able to exercise free power of choice, without the intervention of any element of force, fraud, deceit, duress, over-reaching, or other ulterior form of constraint or coercion, and should have sufficient knowledge and comprehension of the elements of the subject matter involved as to enable him to make an understanding and enlightened decision. This latter element requires that before the acceptance of an affirmative decision by the experimental subject there should be made known to him the nature, duration, and purpose of the experiment; the method and means by which it is to be conducted; all inconveniences and hazards reasonably to be expected; and the effects upon his health or person which may possibly come from his participation in the experiment. The duty and responsibility for ascertaining the quality of the consent rests upon each individual who initiates, directs or engages in the experiment. It is a personal duty and responsibility which may not be delegated to another with impunity.

  2. The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results for the good of society, unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and unnecessary in nature.

  3. The experiment should be so designed and based on the results of animal experimentation and a knowledge of the natural history of the disease or other problem under study that the anticipated results will justify the performance of the experiment.

  4. The experiment should be so conducted as to avoid all unnecessary physical and mental suffering and injury.

  5. No experiment should be conducted where there is an a priori reason to believe that death or disabling injury will occur; except, perhaps, in those experiments where the experimental physicians also serve as subjects.

  6. The degree of risk to be taken should never exceed that determined by the humanitarian importance of the problem to be solved by the experiment.

  7. Proper preparations should be made and adequate facilities provided to protect the experimental subject against even remote possibilities of injury disability or death.

  8. The experiment should be conducted only by scientifically qualified persons. The highest degree of skill and care should be required through all stages of the experiment of those who conduct or engage in the experiment.

  9. During the course of the experiment the human subject should be at liberty to bring the experiment to an end if he has reached the physical or mental state where continuation of the experiment seems to him to be impossible.

  10. During the course of the experiment the scientist in charge must be prepared to terminate the experiment at any stage, if he has probable cause to believe, in the exercise of the good faith, superior skill and careful judgement required by him that a continuation of the experiment is likely to result in injury, disability, or death to the experimental subject.

It's the same crime, and it deserves the same consequences for those who had any willing part in committing it.

Your Nazi ancestors said the same thing about Jews and other Untermenschen. They were just as wrong as you are.

Except the Nazis never really said they weren't human, and they had to change the laws.

Fetuses have never been recognized as human beings, even in places where abortion is illegal.

Okay. Except that the vaccines were proven long before they were widely administered, and everyone who got one wanted to get one.

The experiment should be such as to yield fruitful results for the good of society, unprocurable by other methods or means of study, and not random and unnecessary in nature.
Again, not really applicable to the Covid Vaccine, which was based on proven science.

It's the same crime, and it deserves the same consequences for those who had any willing part in committing it.

Covid Vaccines saved millions of lives...

Really, what do you base that on?

Murders fall into three categories.

Acts of Madness
Acts of Passion
Acts of Premeditation

No amount of deterrence is going to deter a crazy person. So the first one is out. We could make it harder for crazy people to get guns, but that's just crazy talk.

Acts of passion are usually done in the moment, such as catching the wife fucking the milkman. No deterrence is going to prevent that. Making guns less available might, but that's just crazy talk, man.

That leaves acts of premeditation. The problem here is the person doesn't think he's going to get caught, because he is so much more clever than the police. (Usually, they aren't, but they think they are.) So there's no deterrence value here, either.

Okay. Except that the vaccines were proven long before they were widely administered, and everyone who got one wanted to get one.

Genuine vaccines are based on solid science. Not this dangerous experimental mRNA shit. There has not, at this point, been nearly enough time for it to be established as safe and effective, in accordance with the standards that are normally required of all new drugs, before they can be put into general use. All those who have received these drugs are being used as test subjects, in a stage of testing that, by normal standards, would be limited to a few hundred test subjects who have freely consented to be used as such.

The growing body of empirical data coming out of the use so far seems to cast serious doubts as to whether these drugs ever could meet the normally-required standards for safety or efficacy.

Again, not really applicable to the Covid Vaccine, which was based on proven science.

Only if you believe the same “science” that asserts that Bruce Jenner is a woman.

Covid Vaccines saved millions of lives...

You're stupid enough to have fallen completely for the #CoronaHoax2020, so it's no surprise that you're stupid enough to believe this lie as part of that hoax.

To those of us who dare to open our eyes and see for ourselves, rather than just mindlessly believing the lies that Big Brother is telling us, the observable realty is rather different.

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.”—George Orwell, Nineteen Eighty-Four

How many murderers have gone on to commit other crimes, after having been put to death?

Oh that smokescreen again, huh? Scumbag kills one of my loved ones? I'd want him to face the most severe punishment.

This is an example of why we need the death penalty instead of life without parole

Libs cannot be trusted to keep their word

How many innocent people are you willing to kill to sate your bloodlust?

How many of the killers on death row in oregon are guilty of murder?

If they killed once they will kill again

Bullshit.

In Manson's case, it was life with a possibility of parole. There always existed a possibility, however slim, that he might have been paroled.

No, it was death. The sentence was commuted to life when the Supreme Court stopped executions in 1972.
