Are they nuts or just desperate? Do the radicals who seem to be in charge of propaganda really think the illegals will suddenly get the urge to pay taxes if they get a so-called "path to citizenship"? The left wing formula of "immigration reform" will most likely be an additional costly burden on the economy.
This of course requires the MASSIVE assumption that formerly illegal aliens would all of sudden begin working above the table, dutifully paying their taxes.
That's one hell of an assumption, especially when you consider the huge numbers of illegal aliens that have no interest in obtaining citizenship:
