Breathing rarified air.
Yep. I'm sure everyone will agree that what rich people really need is more influence in politics. :cuckoo:

How can blacks become a powerhouse when it comes to elections?
Easy...

Don't be a guaranteed vote for the Democrat party.
At least give the impression that your vote does not come easy.
You guys always bitch about corporations and how powerful they are.
Most Democrats would be spitting blood if they thought the black vote was in doubt.

Another time Perkins was approached, and asked in what way the rich were being persecuted. He answered that he feared there would be higher taxes. So, his example of persecution is a fear of something that MIGHT happen. The same thing Republicans have claimed was going to happen for over 5 years now.

Its kind of hard not being a guaranteed vote for Dems with the caliber of Republican candidates. Most of the other candidates from other parties get no air time. This is assuming of course all Black people vote the same. However, what does this have to do with the OP?

Taking it to the local level, it seems logical that only those who own property and pay local property taxes should be allowed to vote in local elections. In cities where they also have sales taxes then those who pay both property and sales taxes get two votes. The renters who pay only sales taxes get one vote. Mind ye, no change in the number of votes according to number of properties owned.

That is far from logical. Under this system only people that can afford to will be able to vote in their interest. What do you imagine will happen sooner rather than later?

I would imagine property taxes might moderate and sales taxes increase. But since property owners and renters buy the same stuff total tax burden would equalize. As it is renters are able to push the burden onto those who own their own homes. But, as well, they add to the tax burden of the owners of rental properties who, in the fullness of time, raise the rents to recapture what is being extorted from them and, if responsible, tack on a little extra.

Sounds like the earliest days of the Republic, when only the Propertied Classes were supposed to be allowed to vote.

A rather dangerous concept, in our present times.

"The Tom Perkins system is: You don't get to vote unless you pay a dollar of taxes," Perkins said.
"But what I really think is, it should be like a corporation. You pay a million dollars in taxes, you get a million votes. How's that?"
From his logic, if you need to pay taxes to vote, then the reverse should also apply. If you don't vote, then you should not be paying any taxes. For sure these measures would not be implemented as they are completely ridiculous. However as silly as they sound, I can guarantee that if we ever exempt anyone who doesn't vote from paying taxes, voter turnout would be the lowest any nation has ever seen.

What do you think? This guy advocates getting more votes proportional to the amount of taxes you pay.

Brilliant! Then the oligarchs would always win. (as if they don't already)
