People getting fired

Trump has "doubled down" on defending Porter; sending out a Tweet defending "due process" since he believes a woman's accusation can ruin lives! The man is so touched in the head; but no more so than the people who are still supporting him! :aargh: :ack-1::dunno:

Oh, I see. We must first believe the accusers, unless of course they are accusing Bill Clinton then they are all lying trailer trash. I get it
I heard Bill was convicted of perjury. Sounds guilty to me.

what was his punishment for being found guilty? Oh, lost his Arkansas law license, BFD
So he wasn't guilty then. I see.

For what they do on their own time, things that are in no way job related. Does anyone have a problem with that?

please don't make this about politics, it applies to all parties.
/----/ It depends on what they do on their own time. I can think of several things that can get you canned like working part time for the competition, breaking the law, being named in a scandal. It all depends.

would you get fired for speeding ticket? a DUI on a Saturday night? hitting your wife? being accused of hitting your girlfriend?

since when did being accused of something mandate termination?
/----/ I worked for a fortune 50 company who fired a rep for getting a speeding ticket on his own time that resulted in him loosing his license. He kept driving the company car without a license until he had an annual review and a background check. But that's extenuating. In a right to work state you can be fired for any or no reason as long as it;s not discrimination.

sure, he needed a drivers license to do his job. not the same thing.

You mean like protesting during the national anthem? Is that fireable?

of course he was guilty, I asked you what punishment was levied on him. fine? imprisonment? censure? nothing was done to him even though he was found guilty of perjury.

If you signed a contract saying that you will stand with your hand over your heart during the anthem, it is. The NFL players all sign such a contract.

that is also an act at your job, not on your own time

I also have a big problem with people losing their livelihoods and often having their futures destroyed (think young male students) on the basis of unproven allegations.

No I think you are doing what they all do and attempting to deflect.

If what happened reflects poorly on the employer I have no issues with it at all, regardless of who the employer is.

as I feared, this is getting off topic.

so let me restate the question.

do you find it problematic that people lose their jobs for things they do away from the workplace on their own time?

So who got fired for doing whatever on their own time that wasn't job related?

white house staffers from both parties,

I thought Porter resigned.

"resign or you will be fired" come on,

Seems to be some doubt about that. Don't be saying somebody got fired when they didn't, tell it straight.

Here's the deal as far as I know: when you go to work for the WH, you have to pass an FBI background check for obvious reasons. This abuse stuff came out as a result of that, and the FBI told the WH about it. Trump can't be having people in the WH with that kind of baggage, the guy had to go. Might not be totally fair, but that's the way it is.

yes, or his/her ability to do the job. But other than that?

Mozzila CEO Brendan Eich is a prime example, he made statements he was against gay marriage and was promptly lynched on the Internet and let go

Complete BS

How did his domestic issues affect his ability to do his job? I am not supporting they guy, he sounds like an asshole, but I object to people losing their jobs for things done away from the workplace on their own time.

as to resigning or being fired. I think we all know it was----resign or be fired.

I guess it depends on what they do, but here I see we are already Trump bashing. It's ridiculous really.

would you get fired from your job if you had a domestic dispute on your own time?

It was not a simple domestic dispute..stop minimizing what Porter did to his wife, he kicked her ass and gave her a black eye.
All which was documented by the police.
I once had to get a security clearance and they go back throughout your life even talking to my neighbors

Why in the hell should someone working next to our president still be working a year later and could not get a security clearance?

.

FYI, the FBI background check is very thorough and it does take upwards of a year to complete it.

Agree. Just my puny CHL background took 2 months.
