Cops carry M4 "assault rifles", and are called "militarized". An M4 5.56 rifle is FAR FAR FAR more accurate than a Glock pistol or shotgun. From 20 yards and farther, the M4 is a far SAFER weapon for the cops to carry. There is a reason the military carries them. They're superior in accuracy. As for the OP, I read the link, which was an anarchist website that basically cut and pasted the plaintiff's lawsuit summary. I'll save comment on the case until I read the defendants side of it. On the surface, it sounds like the 5 cops were absolutely in the wrong. SHOCKER.......1,000,000 cops in America, and there are GASP- bad apples among them? No shit. There are bad apples in the Marines and Army and the Church and Schools and in Business. Anything made up of humans will contain bad humans.

Sounds like a red herring designed to establish a legal precedence in federal court for equating local law enforcement units as "soldiers".

Let's all hope and pray the Mitchell's don't win this case, at least not on the grounds that their 3rd Amendment rights were violated.

If people don't want cops equated with soldiers, then the government has to stop equipping them like soliders. They should be armed the same way the state/local government allows normal citizens to be armed.
