Politics In School

My school is privately owned, so the owner is my boss, and my boss wants the teachers to push a capitalist message to the kids.
This is hardly a problem for me as I already have a picture of the great Margaret, union killer, Thatcher on my office wall.
My latest is to be a banner to be mounted on my classroom wall.

What do you lot think of politics in schools?

Public schools should provide instruction on American history, including the history of our government, and the theoretical workings of government at all levels - the three branches of the Federal Government, the basics of the Constitution, and the same for the state and local government.

CERTAINLY, there should be no advocacy of political parties and causes, but it would be instructive for HS juniors and seniors to discuss in general terms the positions of the two major political parties and the issues that are being discussed in current political campaigns.

Fortunately or un, if you look at the Constitution closely and look at what the Federal government is doing, the unavoidable conclusion is that Congress, the President, and the Courts routinely run roughshod over many of the operative principles described in the Constitution. Is that political? Or just the facts?

Capitalism is not political, it is economic.

The most important POLITICAL principle in the world is that the people must have the opportunity to peacefully throw out a government that is failing. This ability is universal in the civilized world, and non-existent in the despotic dictatorships.

There is no reason why political freedom cannot lead to socialism, or some variant of it.

It's deplorable but in a private school, they can delivery any political message they choose and they often do. Parents often select a private school because they want their children raised to think as they think and certainly don't want the school to teach their kids anything contrary to their own beliefs.

In public schools, teachers can not be disciplined or fired for expressing political opinions. The same is not true in private schools

...

And that is what is taught.

Unk, I might cite a universal fact to the contrary: Leftists (and even some Conservatives) are UNIFORMLY unwilling to accept the fact that the U.S. Federal Government is a government of LIMITED POWERS (defined in Article I), as provided by the Tenth Amendment.

Find me ONE Leftist who believes that the Constitution is an impediment to universal, Federal-government run healthcare.

I have yet to engage such a person.

This stunning bit of universal ignorance can only be attributed to government schools failing to teach even the most rudimentary elements of the U.S. Constitution. And keep in mind, the Constitution itself is only a relatively few pages long. It's not like studying the Bible; the Constitution is just a short pamphlet.

That is an illogical conclusion.

Illogical? at least 75% of American voters were educated (K-12) in public schools. Not understanding this basic point of "Civics" is tantamount to not knowing the countries that border the U.S. to the North and South.

And not only are they (half the country) IGNORANT of this most basic fact, they are positively convinced that anyone who disagrees with them is ignorant. I have proof.
