Pope Francis Answers Criticism from the Political Rght

They backed off because the Pope came out and disavowed the rumors he was a Marxist. ...

He also said it wasn't offensive to be called a Marxist - simply that it was the wrong label to apply - because everything he said that was taken as Marxist (And not by US!) was actually Church Canon.
As a Jesuit, there is no doubt the new Pope is well versed and sympathetic to 'Liberation Theology' of the southern America's.

Which is basically communism lacquered with a thin veneer of Catholicism. ...

Only to misguided Muslims.

I don't know why you keep going off topic and bringing my religion into the discussion?? .....

Pope Francis does NOT support leftie marxism......get a grip on yourselves.....charity or helping the poor does not mean forced redistribution....forced redistribution is actually THEFT....which as you know is against the Commandments....

what is REALLY funny is how you lefties turn on a dime to praise the Pope when you think (wrongly) he is supporting your ideology.....the Pope is the leader of the world against abortion and gay marriage.....he's the same kind of person you normally would call a 'far right whacko evangelist'.....it must be a love-hate relationship.....

“The Marxist ideology is wrong. But I have met many Marxists in my life who are good people, so I don’t feel offended.”

the Pope loves all sinners...

True story, dude, but it seems like he actually agrees with some of us

Furthermore, he let you all know (because heaven knows you'd never listen to US) that it wasn't Marxism that we were agreeing with HIM about.

Not everything that does not deregulate, downsize, outsource, rape, pillage, and steal anything that moves, and then again, burn the crops and plow the fields with salt is Marxism. Some capitalists back in the day understood that the government, by helping people meet the basic standards of survival, would help industry and commerce as well by preventing the floor they stood on from collapsing.

Your tail, to start. You meat heads don't even understand that you're well into self cannibalization.

:eusa_shhh:

Don't tell the sheep though, um, er, even if that includes you.

i think you're confused...

you don't seem to understand that Obama and company have rigged the system (further) to prevent free capitalism from working the way it should.....just look at how he is destroying the middle class with all his strangling EPA regulations and Obamacare controlling 1/5th of the economy....the only ones who get a pass are his elite cronies who get special exemptions and special subsidies....yes ma'm Obama is a nasty 'Corporatist' right along with the rest of them...

Marxists must control the big corporations in order to control everything and everybody else...this interim step is called 'Socialism'....it is all about power and has nothing to do with helping the poor except to make empty promises....

unrigged free capitalism levels the playing field for ALL to partake in the abundance that is America....this is what really helps the poor climb out of poverty.....not socialism and 'redistribution'...

btw if you think Obama is so concerned about the poor same as Pope Francis....when was the last time he went to church.....? :eusa_liar:

It's actually a kind of confusion. The Pope does not speak for all Christians. He is not a Christian leader. He is a Catholic leader and his opinions, rules, changes in policy do not affect all Christians. They might affect Catholics.

The left has seized on the Pope and now wants to somehow fashion him into a leader and a spokesman for all Christians.

It isn't that the "religious right" in the US at least is afraid of messing with the Pope. The Pope is just being ignored as an effective force. The Pope doesn't need messing with. He's a Catholic. I doubt the Baptists, Lutherans, Methodists or any other Church even mentions the Pope or what he wants.

Well said. The Pope like the President or any pro-football player or hollywood movie star is just a man who puts his pants on one leg at a time like anyone else. His opinions can be just as wrong as Obama or Jake's.

That's weird, I would have thought if Pope Francis and Obama were the same person, Megyn Kelly would have been along to tell us...

The topic WAS Pope Francis, remember, and his little correction to you all about what Marxism isn't. I never mentioned Obama once in this whole thread.

Now, Pope Francis did reiterate his views on the results of "trickle down" economics, so if you want to discuss that, sure, lets :D

Lots of people who met Stalin thought he was a good man to.

*too*

Roosevelt found Stalin to be someone who could be reasoned with. He joined us as an ally against Hitler. Do you remember the ad campaign referring to him as "Uncle Joe?" Roosevelt had a personable way with people, and it worked to our benefit. Sadly, He left us too soon and a sophisticated and measured diplomacy was poorly replaced with a belligerence born of ineptitude.

But that, too, is a discussion for a different thread.

Why is it that our friends on the right want to avoid addressing Pope Francis' actual words and their very clear meaning? :eusa_whistle:

The far right religious folks are afraid of messing with the Pope. Rightfully so.

The self declared expert on the far right doesn't know that the far right thinks the Catholic Church s the Whore of Babylon?

Catholic America: Hagee and the "Whore of Babylon" - On Faith at washingtonpost.com

Interesting, so your side is settling on:

inexcusable anti-Catholic bigotry.

as your position against an indisputable religious leader's call for humanity, economic justice, and rational stewardship of the world's ecosystems.

Alrightee then.

I already addressed his actual words, and see nothing he said in this quote that changes my mind about his ability to deal with reality. The guy has lived a life where he had everything handed to him for decades, and got that ability due to the very economic polices he thinks suck. I am sure he would love to go back to the days when governments paid the fucking Holy Roman Church absolution from their sins, I prefer the world we have now.

That was incredibly stupid, even for you.

Jake claimed that the far right is afraid of the pope. Why would they be afraid of someone who they think is going to cause the rapture and get them off the planet so he can make all the non far right Christians into slaves?

By the way, Koresh was an indisputable religious leader, does that mean I should listen to him? The last pope was an indisputable religious leader, but you hated his guts. Maybe you should stop pretending you aren't a hack and just admit you like what the reporters are saying, even if they are lying about what the guy actually said.

So it's official: You don't know the first thing about the man, and you'll write absolutely ANYTHING you pull out of your ass.

He's not FROM here, sparky - but "the very economic polices he thinks suck" are.

Maybe you should take a nap. The far right ARE the evangelical Christians who subscribe to all that "end of times" nonsense.

And there was PLENTY to dispute about Koresh.

That was incredibly stupid, even for you.

The irony, it burns.

The guy has been a Catholic priest since 1969. That means that, for the last 44 years he hasn't had to worry about food, shelter, or clothing. He has also had a salary in addition to his basic needs, and had an expense account that covered everything else he could possible want. I admire the fact that he doesn't go for all the pomp and circumstances inherent in his office, but he is not anything like Gandhi when it comes to actually experiencing hardship because of his career choices.

I have to take it back, it seems incredibly stupid is now an improvement over your normal posting style. This post only makes sense if I assume I didn't point out that the far right...

Wait, it doesn't even make sense then.
