Pope Francis Leaning Left?

You almost gotta laugh. The low information left loves the new Pope because stupid liberal media types editorialize about his views on capitalism.

I like Pope Francis because he has no compunction about calling unfairness what it is, bringing it to the attention of the very people who've been blindly following Trickle-Down theory in to the ballot box since the 80's - the religious right.

If Francis can get the religious right to see the unfairness of Trickle-Down theory for what it is, he deserves to be Time's man of the year.

Pope Francis Leaning Left?

He is leaning Christian.

There's nothing wrong with calling for fairness in economics and politics.

Yes there is. Who decides what's fair? Justice, i.e. equal rights for all is an entirely different thing.

As a simple gauge of the fact, the wealth distribution graph over the last 30 years points to a patent economic unfairness, which The Pope, among others, has no difficulty pointing out. Denying the fact of it is simply pointless and/or ignorant.

Wealth distribution world wide has way more to do with justice and equality under the law than the nebulous definition of fairness. Do away will all the legal double standards, including in this country, and then we'll talk.

No question Jesus would frown at trickle-down.

Jesus didn't advocate socialism, that is, government redistribution of wealth. His advice was completely non-mandatory. "Trickle-down" economics was nothing more than the media being anti-Reagan--and his tax cuts worked extraordinarily well as they had for Coolidge, JFK and Bush II.

PainefulTrtuh continues to flounder, misrepresenting the Savior, misrepresenting the role of government, without facts or solid philosophy.

Just a sordid presentation that undermines the OP.

Pope can be leaning wherever he wants to - it has no implications on us.

Neither is he changing the dogma, nor is he being infallible here.

His personal views are not binding to anybody.
Move along

he won't, so let go.

religious right in the US is not Catholic.

Whitehall is harsh but you are low information ;)

We will never allow the godless of the far right tell us WWJD: that is the path to hell.

And those who say they are Christian are nothing but modern Pharisees, whited sepulchers spiritually that reek of rot and ruin inside.

Sancho Panza of the left pretending to be important

Knowing what the supposed Christians of the far right are up to, for sure.

Well, ya got that last part right anyway. You might want to back up those baseless assertions with some specificity. If nothing else, message boards teach us that ANYbody can express their unfounded opinions in a bubble. The facts, evidence and solid philosophy which I've put up often enough, stand on their own--and I don't see Jake presenting the first argument against them. Meanwhile, I'll get back to my floundering. :eusa_angel:

Personally I prefer steelhead, grilled, but that's just me.

You made the bold ass assertions without evidence, so all I have to do is point that out.

And Tom Paine would back the Pope's concern for equality before yours for exceptionalism of one group.

Son, remember that facts can influence opinions, but opinions never facts.

You're saying the Bible does have Jesus advocating government redistribution of wealth, but the burden of proof is on me that he didn't? What do you want me to do, quote the whole Bible? Interview God? Jesus??? Is that an example of the kind of "facts" that can influence opinion?

THE VATICAN ATTACKS TRUMP SUPPORTERS
White Christian Americans are "dangerous;" Islam is non-violent.

In July, 2017, La Civilta Cattolica published an article entitled "Evangelical Fundamentalism and Catholic Integralism: A Surprising Ecumenism," a.k.a. "An Ecumenism of Hate." La Civilta Cattolica is Italian for Catholic Civilization. This publication is prestigious and long-lived. It was founded in 1850 and it is vetted by the Vatican. The authors of "An Ecumenism of Hate" are Antonio Spadaro a 51-year-old, Italian Jesuit and editor-in-chief of La Civilta Cattolica, and Marcelo Figueroa, a Presbyterian, Argentinian theologian. Both are close associates of Pope Francis.

"An Ecumenism of Hate" identifies Trump voters, Protestant and Catholic, as in need of correction, as they diverge from true Christian faith, and pose a threat to American democracy and world peace. These Trump voters are wrong about, or are handling in an incorrect way, the following: abortion, same-sex marriage, the environment, education, welfare, immigration, the current influx of migrants into Europe, and Islam. Given that the article was understood as a papally-endorsed, full-frontal attack on the president of the United States and his supporters, it received wide attention.

...

John L. Allen says that Trump supporters would not like the Spadaro and Figueroa article, and Trump critics would like it. I am a Catholic, and I am a Trump critic. I have debated every flashpoint that Spadaro and Figueroa highlight, from abortion to welfare, from jihad to homeschooling. I have never felt any temptation to take the route that Spadaro and Figueroa take. I have never felt any temptation to compare Trump voters to ISIS or to single out "whites from the deep American South" as being somehow uniquely evil actors on the world stage. In taking this high-profile and papally approved stance, Spadaro, Figueroa, and their supporters are not weakening Trump, they are strengthening him. And they are walking backwards from the teachings of Jesus Christ.

54. In this context, some*people continue to*defend*trickle-down*"spillover" theories which*....

I think the matter-of-fact use of "trickle-down", the pejorative phrase the media used to belittle Reaganomics, is all I needed to see to confirm his prejudice and bias. And it has been shown that there is obviously a point beyond which, if taxes are raised, people's incomes and government revenues go down, and vice versa. if that weren't true, then a 100% tax rate would be the most beneficial for both.

the pope talks all Jesusy............
the republicans lose their minds

Republicans be damned, libertarians and independents see a red flag. The best piece of propaganda the left ever came up with is that Jesus' anti-wealth stance favors socialism. Jesus advocated voluntary charity for the poor, not forced confiscation. That said, there are many more honorable wealthy people today than in his day because back then they didn't have economic freedom and government protection of private property which enables the honorable acquisition of wealth. But that doesn't stop the class warfare mob today from making their false accusations and demagoguery.

you realize the lleft right spectrum is artificial right?

Socialists=left, capitalists=right. Other than words being associated with definitions, how is that artificial?

Jesus paid taxes, remember he told Peter to go and get a fish and pay the tax. Remember what happen in Acts when a husband and wife withheld from Peter, they got struck dead.

Where does Jesus say not to pay taxes?

Wow I didn't realize this is an old thread.
