While it is wrong, it really should not be illegal… Progressive control freaks make everything worse.

Even the most ardent free market capitalists (assuming they are sane) do not support allowing market imbalances to create exploitative monopolistic situations.

There's no doubt price gouging is wrong, but it is none of the federal governments business....

They have more important things to worry about

One of the main points of government is to deter and/or punish people for wrongdoing.

Federal should not be involved unless it crosses state lines, but local governments can handle it...

Federal government has no moral credibility, it's best if they stay out of such things. The way the deal with price gouging is not to pay for the goods/services

Carpet baggers.

Anyone caught jacking up prices in the event of a catastrophe should be fined heavily and tossed in jail for a short stint. Then gouge them for their cell meal by making them work the latrines for a couple of days instead of getting the meals tax payers pay to feed inmates.

Why?
Just don't buy from them… LOL

See that's the problem with socialism it wants to control people's private affairs… That's why it must be resisted

You would be singing a different tune if you were trying to get your family to safety and wanted water for your kids but the only gas station between you and safety wanted 30 bucks a gallon for gas and 50 bucks for a jug of water.

Price controls are an communist concept...

ok. Remember that when you run across that scenario.

IT is Texas law that covers price gouging of necessities illegal during a disaster....not federal law.

you can't walk away and simply buy from someone else as you stated during a disaster like this....most vendors are not operating...this is WHY the crooked shop owners opened know they can gouge the customer and get away with it even if illegal when customers are in dire need for the necessities.

I have a choice to pay for the water or whatever or not to, the whole transaction like said above is %100 voluntary.
Only a fool would want to live in an America where the federal government sets things like pricing…

The whole concept of the federal or state government dictating pricing by the private sector is fucked up…
