Psaki reveals White House (government) is consulting with Facebook to 'flag misinformation'

Or let's flip around. I'm adamantly anti-socialist. If I censor pro-socialist comments on my website, is that a violation of the First? Or is it a valid expression of my values?
Aren't your forgetting something? Like the Government's role in this all?

Isn't that the crux of this whole matter? Or did you just overlook that minor detail?

You can do what your like with your little website. Nobody cares or will notice.

When the government joins tentacles with a fascist like Mark Zuckerberg, however, now we have corporate
and government forces jointly censoring free speech which is the very definition of fascism.
Read a book. Learn something.

Trump telling news media to fire a journalist is not a free speech issue. The journalist works for the news source.

We don't work for Facebook.
Do you have any more of a right to post on Facebook as someone has a right to work as a journalist for a particular area?

Nope.

Employment status is irrelevant to the argument.

I have no right to a mobile phone, but Colfax is okay with Quid Pro Joe telling AT&T to cancel my service so I cannot communicate with anyone over that platform.

What a great country we have become.

Critics roundly condemned the White House after Press Secretary Jen Psaki revealed the Biden administration is working with Facebook to flag "problematic" posts that "spread disinformation" on COVID-19.

On Thursday, Psaki was asked a question regarding the Biden administration’s request for tech companies to be more "aggressive" when policing what they referred to as "misinformation." Psaki revealed that the White House is "in regular touch with social media platforms" to handle it.

COMMENT:

BOOOM!!! That is GOVERNMENT using Facebook as a tool of censorship!!!

1ST AMENDMENT WILL APPLY!!!

Does government have any right to take action to prevent me from posting on Facebook?

What you're telling me is that because I don't have a right to post on a platform, free speech doesn't apply and government can take action to suppress my speech?

Listen to yourself.

Here's something that is far more dangerous:

Would you consider THAT government action?
Obviously. They're proposing legislation. More worrisome yet, they're proposing many of the same things Trumpsters are clamoring for: getting rid of section 230, treating it like a public "utility", etc, etc....

When the right and the left agree is when we really get fucked.
For MONTHS I have been banging my head against the wall trying to get you to see this.

It starts so small, so nobody really notices.

If we don't stay sharp, it will all be gone in a flash.

It depends on what that role is. If Facebook goes to the government and says "We want to do what we can to fight the pandemic, how can we help?" that's very different from the government telling FB "censor these posts or we will destroy you". It's not clear how this went down.

Regardless, it's yet another good reason to avoid Facebook.

What the fuck does that have to do with ANY of this, dumb fuck?
You really shouldn’t call me dumb if you can’t figure out the relevance.

A common carrier can’t discriminate.

So your little hypothetical isn’t just irrelevant, it’s illegal.

Trump demanded the NFL fire any NFL player who kneeled in protest. Apparently by your standards that was government censorship.

When I got my laptop years ago my children signed me up for a Facebook account.

Not in all the intervening years have I used it once! And any Facebook communications
from brother or daughters or ex wives or nieces is totally ignored without exception!

Should the government be allowed to even ask that you be taken off facebook? NO!!!

It does if it asks Facebook to remove you and they do. That's the point of this discussion. The government, by using Facebook as a tool, has taken the power to silence critics.
