As President of the United States, it's his job to choose his words carefully when he steps behind that podium, especially when you're standing up in front of the nation and giving a briefing that's supposed to be informative during a pandemic that is killing hundreds of people in your own country every day. But people listen and pay attention when the leader of the free world speaks in back of that podium with that presidential seal. And right now, people are scared. As President of the United States, it's his job to choose his words carefully when he steps behind that podium, especially when you're standing up in front of the nation and giving a briefing that's supposed to be informative during a pandemic that is killing hundreds of people in your own country every day. This isn't a MAGA rally where he can riff the first thing that pops into his brain and it means nothing to most sane people. But people listen and pay attention when the leader of the free world speaks in back of that podium with that presidential seal. And right now, people are scared. No, but what WILL disappear is the willingness of people to spend. People will rediscover it's cheaper to make food at home than to go out to dinner. Vacations will be cancelled because not enough funds. People will cut back for a long time after the lockdown is lifted until they get their financial bearings.

I don't think all those jobs will come back. Not for a long time. Do you really think businesses that are already swimming in a sea of red are just going to hire everybody back? I don't know for sure but I thought the guarantees in getting that money were only covered while furloughing people during this pandemic. If I was being a cynical bastard, I'd say that a lot of companies might hire everybody back....for one day to make the compliance (and I say that word rolling my eyes into their sockets) look good. Then, cut staff. That would be almost as big of a disaster as furloughing them or laying them off. I hope this doesn't happen, but I only have the experience from past recessions as my guidepost as far as layoffs go. When economic hard times come, personnel is usually the first place to cut expenses. But, we're in uncharted territory.
