Racing Longtail River Boats

In the Chinese province of Hubei at the world's largest hydroelectric power plant "Three Gorges" on the Yangtze River, the world's largest ship elevator for ferrying ships over the mountains has started working. The new ship elevator is a marvel of engineering and is capable of lifting ships together with water weighing about 3000 tons to a height of 113 meters. The process takes 30-40 minutes, which is six times faster than going through a system of 5 locks. Not all ships can be lifted on it, but still the elevator will speed up the work. Ships are placed in a basin-shaped platform 120 meters long, 13 meters wide and 3.5 meters deep. 2021
