Religion, Culture and Homophobia

Told you. These asshats are going to portray him as a sad, confused guy who was driven to kill all those freaks by guns and Christian morality.

Worthless. Garbage. Cull.

You're correct. Your statement is worthless garbage.

No one is saying that. I haven't heard anyone say he's "sad". However - when you have multiple sources stating that he was violent, unhinged, unstable, angry at gays, and grew up under a stern religious upbringing that was itself anti-gay - then maybe there is some insight as to his actions and if you have some insight then maybe you can try to prevent similar things from happening again (or maybe not).

Christian morality has been responsible for a considerable share of anti-gay violence in this country. But please, continue to make excuses.

Lol.

You know you've been exposed for what you are now... Might be time to migrate to another messageboard. Your schtick is patently shredded and useless here now.

You won't be missed.

Have enough examples of Christian homophobic hatred and calls for violence been provided to satisfy you or will you continue to deny Christians engage in hate?
I never said Christians never engage in hate.

I said they aren't the threat that violent Islamic militants from the middle east are. Which is why we should close our borders to all from that area, you anti-American propagandist pig.

Tell that to the gays who have had their clubs bombed and burned.

The Global Divide on Homosexuality
Greater Acceptance in More Secular and Affluent Countries

2013-Homosexuality-05.png

Some unsurprising information - most Muslim-majority nations show significant majorities stating that homosexuality should not be accepted. What is surprising though - is significant numbers in non-Muslim countries such as S. Korea, China, El Salvadore and in Africa: Ghana, Uganda and Kenya, both Christian majority are over 90% unwilling to accept homosexuality.

"The survey of publics in 39 countries finds broad acceptance of homosexuality in North America, the European Union, and much of Latin America, but equally widespread rejection in predominantly Muslim nations and in Africa, as well as in parts of Asia and in Russia. Opinion about the acceptability of homosexuality is divided in Israel, Poland and Bolivia."

On the other hand, the trend in developed and more secular countries is towards greater tolerance of homosexuality, including among immigrant populations.

The report also notes a strong relationship between religiousity and anti-homosexual attitudes that correlates with both Islam, Christianity and even Judaism, with secular Jews in Israel being far more tolerant than religious Jews:

"There is a strong relationship between a country’s religiosity and opinions about homosexuality.2 There is far less acceptance of homosexuality in countries where religion is central to people’s lives – measured by whether they consider religion to be very important, whether they believe it is necessary to believe in God in order to be moral, and whether they pray at least once a day."
Another interesting point is that this increased tolerance is also reflected in immigrant populations to secular countries: Section 5: Political Opinions and Social Values, specifically Muslims. The overall national trend is towards greater acceptance, and though the trend is still lower than the rest of America, it is still trending towards greater acceptance.

Acceptance of homosexuality has risen significantly among those with high levels of religious commitment (from 16% in 2007 to 30% today) as well as those with medium levels of religious commitment (from 21% in 2007 to 37% today). However, those who express a low level of religious commitment continue to be more accepting (57%) than those with a high religious commitment (30%). Four years ago, 47% of those with low religious commitment said homosexuality should be accepted, compared with 16% among those who express a high commitment.

Whether Muslim Americans were born in the U.S. or immigrated here seems to make little difference in views toward homosexuality. Currently, 41% of the native born say homosexuality should be accepted, about the same as the 38% of foreign born who say this. In both cases, the numbers are up since 2007 (30% among the native born, 26% among the foreign born).

Given the recent tragedy in Orlando, which is driving a new furvor of anti-muslimism and a sudden new finding of "pro-gay sentiment" amongst formerly gay-hating demographics - it might be a good idea to look at actual trends within the US, and what really goes on around the world - including gay-hating non-Muslim countries that seem to get a free pass.

So basically, the more backward people are, the more likely they are to not accept homosexuality.

There is a strong link with religiosity - the more religious, the less tolerant.

That sounds a hell of lot like a religious justification for what happened.

In the US, much of the hate towards LGBT community is orchestrated by the Christian majority simply because they are the majority, and like Islam, their religion tells them homosexuals are an abomination and their holy book instructs them on what to do - stone them, kill them, do not tolerate them.

obama is pushing 2 conflicting societies to live peaceably together.
Sorta like starlings and woodpeckers.
Bigoted nonsense, a ridiculous lie, the president is doing no such thing.

Gay Americans are not a "separate society," they're part of the American society along with all other Americans.

The problem is a minority of hateful rightwing bigots working to divide the American people.

This issue is just another reason I realized religions are man made and those men lived about 1500 years ago. They were pretty ignorant and clearly not progressive. They were heterosexuals so they wrote homosexuality was wrong in gods eyes because it was wrong in their eyes.

Then there are people who will say Jesus never said anything about gays. The authors were very careful when writing what Jesus said. Played it safe. Remember he was sinless. Except for that one time he overturned the money changers table.

It is interesting to find out how "accepted" homosexuals are around the world. Meanwhile, the mass murder terror attack yesterday was done by a guy who not only yelled allah akbar but called the police to tell them about his allegiance to ISIS. To suggest that global attitudes about homosexuality drove this freak to kill a bunch of people, seems to me to be a non sequitur.

It's radical religion. Christianity finished up most of it's bullshit by the 1700's. It figures that a religion which originated 1500 years ago still has some wrinkles.

And you will not do so. Because you're just a liar. There is no orchestrated violent Christian movement against fags, there never has been. We aren't killing and stoning fags. Muslims are. And everybody else that *offends* them.

Yes....and the most stupid people. Why not....the people who came up with the idea of religion believed in witches and thought the earth was flat.

Hey Guno, today I was listening to this black radio station I usually agree with 99% of what they say. The woman is a famous black leader/radio host/personality/celebrity. Her name is Mildred Gaddis. At least in Detroit she is a leader if not only with her voice.

Anyways, today I found myself completely disagreeing with Ms. Gaddis and her callers. They were talking about the bible says this about gays and Levidicus said this and "you just know they're living in sin by just looking at them", one caller said referring to gays.

Anyways, this is why I say the idea of god makes people stupid. Stupid blacks who were unfairly discriminated against just a few decades ago are now the discriminators. They should be ashamed of themselves. But because they believe that book to be the word of god, they are conflicted.

I'm telling you the more I learn about Christianity the less I like it.

Yea but I am even hearing black liberal churches who I usually agree with when they talk about black issues, saying the same ignorant shit radical christians say about gays. They say its a sin. They say god says its not good. They say the bible says. So no Christians aren't killing gays but their message is almost as bad as the muslims message. Funny you can see how ridiculous their religion is but you can't see how ridiculous yours is.

No Christian discrimination isn't as overt as Muslims. But they are not ashamed to be teaching that being gay is a sin and/or wrong. It is not. It's just not normal for you. But who cares what normal is? As long as they aren't bothering you.

This gay issue is one of the main reasons I realized all religions are just made made up bullshit. Thank you homophobic Christians. Thanks for opening my eyes. I once was lost but now I'm found was blind but now I see...you suck. LOL
