'Essence of authoritarianism': Expert warns 'Project 2025' would create a Trump 'autocracy'

yeah but…doesn’t pretty much everything in that proposal require laws to be passed? Doubtful that any of their crazy ideas will actually make it to his desk to sign.
Doesn't really have to.

The heritage foundation teabaggers on the supreme court, already set things in motion.

Of the 26 items I’ve seen listed as part of Prohect 2025, I agree completely with 18 of them and in part with most of the rest of them.

It would be an excellent START on what’s needed to fix America.

There mere fact that he would sign those admittedly crazy ideas into law is enough to say

NO

Neither he nor the people pushing those ideas should be anywhere near government

It’s just like agenda 2021 agenda 2030, a think tank doing a bit too much thinking, but nothing will ever come of it.

Yeah, but we still have a cotus..and a legislative branch of the government. He can’t executive order these things into place..they would have to be placed by law.

This isn’t going where you think it’s going. This is nothing but the same scenario like when right wingers said Obama was going to enact Martial law….

They are pushing this very hard and there is nothing to stop them.

You sound like a German in 1933 claiming that Hitler can be controlled.

Obama was never going to enact Martial law.

This is real and Trump will do it

The Heritage Foundation — a well-funded, influential far-right group in Washington, DC — has been quietly vetting tens of thousands of arch-conservative acolytes to staff up the federal government under the next Republican administration as part of its "Project 2025" presidential transition plan. One scholar of authoritarian movements around the globe is sounding the alarm over what that would mean should former President Donald Trump win a second term in the White House.

During a Saturday segment on MSNBC, New York University professor Ruth Ben-Ghiat told host Ali Velshi that Project 2025 would effectively transform American government from a meritocratic democracy to a regime resembling Vladimir Putin's Russia. She pointed to Heritage's calls to eliminate numerous government agencies that serve as checks on the executive branch as merely one example.

"The essence of authoritarianism is removing restraints on the leader and making him immune from prosecution by domesticating government," Ben-Ghiat said. "And so some of what Project 2025 proposes, like abolishing the DOJ and the FBI is designed for that end, to make it impossible to prosecute Trump and allow him to commit crimes with impunity."

Sounds ominous to me! What do you think?
Yes, the US Supremacist Court has lined up trump to create an autocracy that will be continued with the trump royal family. There are no safe guards for the president anymore. There is nothing to hold trump back from committing crimes in the White House.

Our democracy is on the line in November. And that IS NOT an overstatement. If trump wins the trump kingdom begins.

This isn’t Germany, it’s not 1933, and we have a very different system of government.

Despite what the left is desperately trying to push, trump is not going to be a dictator, he was being facetious when he said that, he was talking about executive orders for the wall and oil.

What project 2025 is stating could not be unilaterally implemented by one person, our system wouldn’t allow it.

Of course Obama wasn’t, but that was the narrative then from the right, just like this is now the narrative from the left.

Well sure.

These nutters know Trump. They know how to make this appealing to Trump. They know Trump doesn't give two shits about them or about Christianity. So they appeal to his king complex.

So they have to sweeten up the vegetables for the baby man. They are using Trump just like everyone in his party is using him.
