Legit question, did he? For African-Americans to vote for him because they believe he understands them was foolish. He shares a skin color with them, but not a life experience. Hell, he doesn't understand the life experience of any shade of American. Other than brief visits, he grew up outside the continental US until he was 19 and came to college. His world view is different than any color of American.

I have said this many times. Most black families have family memories of segregation, Jim Crow, northern migration, and in some circumstances slavery. Obama has none of that. His father was an African immigrant in the 1960s. He grew up in the 70s and 80s (he and I are 6 months apart), when all of that was long gone. Other than getting it from black friends he can have no better understanding of the black experience than anyone else.
