WASHINGTON -- Rick Perry stepped up to the lectern and paused. The former Texas governor scanned the room, a Thursday luncheon at the National Press Club, and proceeded to delve into a particularly gruesome chapter of his state's history.

"Ninety-nine years ago -- on May 15, 1916 -- at a courthouse in Waco, Texas, a mentally disabled 17-year-old boy named Jesse Washington was convicted of raping and murdering the wife of his employer," Perry said, as a pall of silence fell upon the room. "He pled guilty and was sentenced to death. But Jesse died no ordinary death. Because he was black."

Speaking slowly but emphatically to a predominantly white audience, Perry recounted the horrific lynching outside the McLennan County Courthouse, where 15,000 people gathered to watch Washington be tortured, mutilated, castrated and burned alive. The incident, he said, was an "episode in our history that we cannot ignore. It is an episode we have an obligation to transcend."

Yeah, looks like blacks are better served by the Republican Party - if they don't mind ending up like Jesse Washington.

It's kinda strange for Perry to dig up a sad time in history but it's a fact that democrats dominated Texas politics from Reconstruction to the 1960's so it's reasonable to cite democrats in the lynching of Mr. Washington. It's kind of strange that a leftie would make an issue out of Perry's remarks but probably not unusual for progs to be so ignorant of American history that they were unaware of 20th century politics.

And he would be right. but sadly they have been Brainwashed into thinking other wise and look what they have to show for it.

unemployment for them under Obama is NO better if not worse. they did get him to stir them up with all kinds of radical spew though

You understand those were Democrats who lynched him, right?
Blacks were traditionall GOP voters until FDR. Then FDR conned them and subsequent generations of Democrats all promised them everything The result has been disasterous social and economic policiees that have insured blacks are at the bottom of the socio economic ladder.
So Perry is correct. Lakhota is a moron. Nothing new here.

When Jesse Washington was tortured, Democrats ruled Texas. Also, try and factually dispute the following:

- Republicans Ended Slavery
- Republicans initiated civil rights
- Democrats passed great society and that resulted in less jobs for Blacks, increased single motherhood among Blacks.
- Democrats followed Margaret Sanger's vision of reducing Black population by pushing Abortion Rights.

If you want to know what Rick Perry really stands for you just need to know that when the Supreme Court struck down the voting rights act he was literally changing the Texas laws on voting to make it harder for blacks to vote.
You can say whatever you want, but you should at a minimum be able to back up what you stand for.

That must by why all those stupid ******* vote for the GOP? Oh wait, my bad, they don't...

I don't believe many of you people can have an honest race discussion which is why Perry just wasted his time. It just goes on and on.
