My apologies in advance for the length of this post...

It's rare that white people actually experience such racism but my wife and I witnessed it first hand ourselves just last night. We went to a nice restaurant in Coral Gables after a concert. In front of us at the hostess stand were three black men, about mid 20's, being told by the owner of the restaurant they could not be seated because they were wearing shorts and one was wearing a baseball hat. They were welcomed to sit at the bar if they wanted, but could not be seated in the dining room, but even at the bar, the one gentleman would have to remove his hat. I myself was wearing a jacket and thought nothing about it because it made sense to me a fine establishment would have certain dress restrictions. They recognized it as the racism it was and left.

When we were seated in the dining room, we noticed a table near us with 3 white men, also about mid twenties. They caught our attention because 2 of them were wearing hats. Not wanting to believe the 3 black men were denied such service because of racism, we figured maybe the white guys were allowed to wear hats because they were fashionable hats, not baseball hats. But still, it caught our attention. And because it caught our attention, we couldn't help but notice when they got up to leave, 2 of them were wearing shorts.

We took pictures and got up to leave as then it was blatantly obvious the 3 black men were not allowed into the dining room, not just because they were wearing shorts -- but because they were black men wearing shorts. There was no other difference between those two groups of men.

So we looked for the owner to explain why we were walking out but he was gone. A manager came and we said we would pay for our salads and my wife's glass of wine, but to cancel the remainder of the order; that despite that being one of our favorite restaurants in that area, we could not stay there a moment longer and would never be returning. When she went to get the general manager, the hostess who was left alone, and who saw both groups of men, thanked us for standing up. Then I went up to our waiter who was now involved and I handed him a tip, explaining his service was just fine and it wasn't his fault he was losing a table. He said it wasn't necessary and he too thanked me, saying he sees that happen there.

The GM came over and apologized profusely, ridiculously stating half their kitchen is staffed with "darker skinned" employees and how they have a life sized portrait of LeBron James in the bar area, as though that meant they're not racist. And in response to her assurances that they are not racist and have never done anything racist, I shot back at her with, "ya just did." That's when she shut up, compted our salads, and we left.

The name of that restaurant is Christy's.

It was the black CID agent that told that I needed to go to the senators to get the MP "dealt" with.

Two white/hispanic (not sure which) males tried to grab off the streets walking home from work around 5/6 pm in broad daylight--it was two hillbillies in the truck behind them that stopped them. I bought a gun the next day. Even now as an old woman, I stay aware of what is around me and hate riding in elevators with any males. I tend to try to keep space even when in crowds away from others especially males.

Don't know where you expected me to run to I was going back to work when he ran across the street to try to block me...literally no where to go but into the building wall or out into the street where I went to try to get away from him. it didn't occur to me to run toward my apartment-----getting to the security guards at my work notorious for their huge size is likely what I was focused on.
