If he did it 47 years ago? No, not now. Punishing him today for something that happened 47 years ago is over the top. Should have taken care of it back then.

If he were my son, I'd beat the living tar out of him, but thank goodness, my kid was (to the best of my knowledge) never a trouble maker.
If he did it in sixth or seventh grade, I think he should be punished, but I don't think a federal case should be made out of it.
