I'm sure they are there now but "there" (in the general area) is not where most of the assistance is currently needed....That will take airlifts till the bridges are repaired.

I read where the locals are taking matters in hand and building low-water bridges of logs. The small streams that became torrents have now mostly receded into their banks but the bridges over them are all gone.....Log bridges will serve in the short term.

All the states affected were approved for FEMA assistance if they submitted a request. Gov Kemp did tell Biden yesterday he didn't need any more resources and that was just on the news. So don't know if he took it at first and he just doesn't need any more or he just does not want it. I suspect he has taken assistance.

Good government takes care of its own people first. Then it can devote available resources, talent, time whatever to help others.

Florida is sending rescue missions and supplies to Floridians stranded in western North Carolina experiencing widespread destructive flooding that resulted in dozens of deaths, blocked roads and blacked-out power and phone service.

Gov. Ron DeSantis ordered the start of what he's calling "Operation Blue Ridge" on Sunday, mobilizing teams to provide airlifts for people left stranded, with food, water and other supplies to those in need.

DeSantis said the operation is similar to one he ordered to extract Floridians from Israel following the Oct. 7 Hamas attacks last year and from Haiti earlier this year when that country was wracked by political unrest.
