Forgive me if this is a dumb question, but the only one that I have is did the girl ever once try to fight the fire once she finally saw that there was one? She may have lost her sense of smell, but that doesn't mean that her sense of sight went with it as well which is why she should have kept that candle in front of herself at all times in my opinion.
