Russia sanctions: Australian government slams export decision
COMMUNICATIONS Minister Malcolm Turnbull has slammed Russias trade sanctions on Australia which block exports worth hundreds of millions of dollars each year.
During an interview on The Today Show this morning, Mr Turnbull described Russia as the net loser after a game of tit-for-tat saw Russian President Vladimir Putin agree to introduce an embargo on agricultural products from Australia, the European Union, the United States, Canada and others.
Those countries have imposed their own sanctions against Moscow over its policy in Ukraine.
Its extraordinary behaviour, Mr Turnbull said.
The net loser out of all of this will be Russia. Putin is reacting against the firm response from the rest of the world and his country is the one who will lose out of this.
#####
The folly of getting mixed up in conflicts overseas.
Another perfect reason why Australia should arm itself with nuclear weapons, build 'fortress Australia', and be 'everyone's friend'.
Oh, that didn't work when US stayed out of WW2, citing it as "Europe's war"...and didn't work out when Britain tried to appease Hitler by being his 'friend'.
Some say Putin is the new Hitler...first take Crimea, then Ukraine, then the rest of Europe.
Hmmm...maybe time for Australia to boot the Russian ambassador out and boycott all things Russia...including tourism [all citizens banned from travelling to Russia, and all flights between Russia and Australia banned].
