Results are in for OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's $60 million dollar universal basic income ($1,000/month free cash for the poor) study. Study directors were surprised when participants did nothing to improve themselves, experienced no improvement in their quality of life except for working less and spending that time on leisure, and their incomes rose much slower than a low paid control group that was self-motivated to get back to work as soon as possible after covid. Study directors consider their "greater autonomy over how they spend their time" to be a great success and think that the government should throw money at it.

Most of us that have been around a while could have told the dude what the outcome would be without him having to spend $60 million.

The leftist dem takeaway will be........But, but, but, the study says they were HAPPIER. End of story --- UBI is GOOD, let's throw away more money at it!

Yes sir, I can hear it now.....

"It's a humanitarian crisis!"
"People starving in the streets!"
"Children going hungry as their parent was depending on that money to buy food!"

The protests that "the UBI MUST be continued" are predictable. You can't just stop such a "vital" program when people's very lives are at stake.....All those recipients must be taken care of.

Sam Altman's basic-income study is out. Here's what it found.

snippets:

Recipients put the bulk of their extra spending toward basic needs such as rent, transportation, and food, the study found. They also worked less on average but remained engaged in the workforce and were more deliberate in their job searches compared with a control group.

"Recipients had greater agency to make decisions that worked best for their lives and to prepare for the future, from moving neighborhoods to expressing interest in new business ventures," the report's authors said.

The study found that those who received the $1,000 payments increased their overall spending by an average of $310 a month, but most of that spending went toward food, rent, and transportation. They also offered more financial support to others in need compared with the control group.

When they scored, they shared their drugs with others.

As much as I am a libertarian, I believe that basic income works as long as their stipulations, especially training. When people don't have the stress of having to make ends meet, they won't work a job beneath their skill level. In essence, trapped in a bad situation which is not optimal for them or their nation.

There are very talented and intelligent people out there who by circumstance (had a kid early in life, home troubles, got mixed in with the wrong crowd, lost their focus for whatever reason etc) who could not be harnessed in training courses.

If someone is willing to take courses 3-5 days a week and drive themselves to improve and better help the economy, I see a major benefit to basic income. It is minimal in terms of investment but the payoff is exponential to the point of infinite benefit if you can find a few diamonds in the rough.

They will in turn, in theory, give back to others when they reach the top of the mountain.

1. The more you work, the less you have time to spend money

2. The harder you work, the more respect you have for the value of a dollar

3. Printing even more money for universal income will cause higher inflation, something we can all ill afford now as it is.

Nothing is free.

Case closed.
