In a surprise decision, the Supreme Court agreed that Alabama violated the Voting Rights Act by diluting the Black vote when it drew new congressional maps following the 2020 census.

The 5-4 decision written by Chief Justice John Roberts found that Alabama Republicans improperly denied Black communities a second congressional district by packing them into one district and splitting them into other majority white districts. The decision was joined by liberal Justices Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotomayor and Ketanji Brown Jackson and conservative Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

The decision in Allen v. Milligan comes as a shock as the court’s conservatives have repeatedly gutted the Voting Rights Act in cases over the past decade including Shelby County v. Holder and Brnovich v. Democratic National Committee.

MAGA MAGGOTS don't want free and fair elections. Their idea of a Free and Fair Election is they win, other wise the "Election Is Rigged". Hence Gerrymandering in Alabama.

Of particulalr note, the Scotus is starting to move closer the the middle and the left, on account of the hard influence from the political right losing their power to influence now.
This bodes badly for Trump and his plan to own the law of the land.

Awesome news. The republicans are so anti-democratic that they stink to high hell and even their court rules against them. lol

This was a shocking ruling, but in a good way

Gerrymandering has been used by BOTH parties for many years. If you bother to read their decision it isn't a win for the Voting Rights Act. The decision was clearly based on specifics in this instance. There is still an understanding that the VRA is a means to apportion political power by RACE. That is unacceptable and in time it will be constrained.

Why is Gerrymandering for one reason OK but not another?

Also, the left will like this less and less in rural minority areas if they keep up the LGBT stuff to the detriment of religious minority sensibilities.

Today the fickle pickle left loves the Supreme Court. Tomorrow the fickle pickle left will hate the Supreme Court.

So you agree with 100% of their rulings or disagree with 100% of them?

Heaven forbid, the Court leave politics out of it, and rule on just the law.

It would be nice if they did this a little more often.

It has nothing to do with, "left," or "right."

The GOP just knows, that minorities tend to vote on the left, they don't give a shit about color. . . They were, in all likelihood, just trying to put all the liberals in one district.

Conservative judges, on the court, understood, despite this agenda, it violated the Constitution.

The court is ruling on strict construction of the Constitution, but a foreigner like you? Will not understand this.

So don't get your hopes up.

. . . IMO? Once the black community starts voting GOP in significant numbers, due to the left's insane open border, dystopian economic policies, and gender bender/anti-family policies, this decision might just come back to bite the DNC in the ass. . .

Oh I have agreements and disagreements, but their decisions on a certain case doesn't mean that the court is moving right or left. The left is easily moved to tears or jubilation. Such emotional creatures.

At best Mr. Beale, you're trying to make it into a debate with me, but you don't have any ammunition left for doing that!

The best I can do to help you along is to pretend that I as a foreigner could argue that the Scotus isn't moving closer to the intent of the constitution.

But I just can't argue that with any conviction!

Very good.

“The vast majority of ongoing Section 2 cases mount challenges to maps in southern states such as Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas, all of which share invidious histories of enacting racially discriminatory maps and were previously subjected to preclearance requirements under the now-defunct Section 5 of the VRA. Lawsuits across these states and others were brought to remedy alleged violations of Section 2 and to ensure that minority voters have the opportunity to elect candidates of their choice.”
