The key planks of the Share The Wealth platform included:
No person would be allowed to accumulate a personal net worth of more than 300 times the average family fortune, which would limit personal assets to between $5 million and $8 million. A graduated capital levy tax would be assessed on all persons with a net worth exceeding $1 million.

Annual incomes would be limited to $1 million and inheritances would be capped at $5 million.

Every family was to be furnished with a homestead allowance of not less than one-third the average family wealth of the country. Every family was to be guaranteed an annual family income of at least $2,000 to $2,500, or not less than one-third of the average annual family income in the United States. Yearly income, however, cannot exceed more than 300 times the size of the average family income.

An old-age pension would be made available for all persons over 60.

To balance agricultural production, the government would preserve/store surplus goods, abolishing the practice of destroying surplus food and other necessities due to lack of purchasing power.

Veterans would be paid what they were owed (a pension and healthcare benefits).

Free education and training for all students to have equal opportunities in all schools, colleges, universities, and other institutions for training in the professions and vocations of life.

The raising of revenue and taxes for the support of this program was to come from the reduction of swollen fortunes from the top, as well as for the support of public works to give employment whenever there may be any slackening necessary in private enterprise.[2]

Man I wish Huey Long had not been assassinated. Wonder where the country would have been under him and not Roosevelt...might not have ever even entered ww2.

Or Heaven's Gate...

Beam me, Peep!

Here's an idea, try it in Hollywood and let us know how wealth sharing worked out. Hollywood is the ideal place to start the equality project. It's a relatively well regulated closed society and the wage difference between people who work in the movies and the actors is astronomical.

Obviously people in he 20/30's had more common sense than they do now. Long was extremely popular.

Extreme politics is one of the results of significant income inequality.

The key is to not let it get that bad by actually addressing them earlier rather than later.

As radical as this plan is it's actually still better than some of the shit that the tea party loons advocate for.

Most people on these forums are losers whose priority is to sound smart rather than to understand anything. they view it like a boxing rink where by insulting ideas of others they score points. In real life people are not as bad, but on the media it's the same as here.

Share your own fucking wealth. Keep your hands off mine.

The pilgrims tried this 400 years ago and it didn't work.

They tried it for a year or two until their homes and farms were settled and, yes, it did work.
Will this work a nation such as the US is now is up for debate.

Apparently you think starving means it's working. They tried it until they decided they would rather eat than live according to some flea brained ideal.

No, it didn't work. The Plymouth Colony settlers abandoned agrarian communism in favor of private agriculture because they wanted to survive.

Wrong. Schemes like the one in the OP are the result of envy and idiocy.

It failed because everyone was given an equal amount of yield regardless of how much they worked.

Neither of which should be underestimated in times of desperation.

Idiocy is thinking income inequality can continue to grow for another 40+ years without consequences. I am sure you will blame the government because when you are a hammer every problem looks like a nail. Simple solutions for simple people.
