Since the start of the Trade war...

Then why does my smiling face see this when I open my brokerage account this morning?

You left off the time frame for your RoR. I wonder why that is

My session is going to time out. Are you going to drop the propaganda and tell me what i should have made or not? Youve got time to hit "funny" for ten different posts by 5 different people.
When I call a communist out im not going to let go.

How is that losing? The American people bought what they freely choose to buy and the US manufacturers were able to increase their profits, their only reason for existence.
AIRHEAD. It's losing because we as a nation lost the greater part of our manufacturing base, a critical thing for every nation to have. Just military arms alone is a major factor. Do you want our national defense to depend upon having to IMPORT goods and raw materials from other countries, who may or may not be friendly to us in the future ?

And don't you know that economic input output tables consistently show a need for manufacturing, as a base creator of other industries and jobs, which flow from ?

And don't know you that all this has caused loss of jobs (manufacturing+), which in turn caused loss in disposable income, which thereby hurts income/profits to all US companies ?

And last but not least, a major part of the overall trade war has been with Mexico et al silently going on, as their invaders get sanctuary here from Democrats, while scooping up US jobs, and depriving US businesses of tens of Billions$$$ per year of sales, due to remittances (21st century imperialism) There's your MACROeconomics.

The “trade war” started over 30 years ago, and we’ve been losing that war the whole time.

At least now we have a President willing to fight for us instead of surrendering.
Correct. After 2 US president idiots gave China unrestricted access to our uniquely large and valuable MARKET, finally we have a president putting a stop to it, and setting things back to normal again. Some people can easily see this. Some can't.

Its a war..thus the "war" part of "trade war". Golfing gator channels Tokyo Rose for the Chinese..we pull for the American side. But it will be painful. Golfing gators communists and their Democrat allies will submit in the end if the rest of us hold the line.
Right now China is watching their allies inside our borders and hoping they can outlast Trump.

I support the free market, you support governmental controls and you call me the communist?

ObiWonIrony.jpg

You support any left wing, socialist or communist you can find. You even embarrass yourself by trying to convince us that brake fluid needs to be changed to avoid loss of face. There is no leftist you havent lept to the defense of.
Then you protest what a pure free marketeer you are. Disingenuously as you channel a communist saying "we will bury you" and explain how Chinese communism, will defeat us in the end. Its where your heart is.
You realize tariffs are not free market right?

Oh well. Now take your anti-american propaganda elsewhere.

Or are you still figuring? Is it that hard? You had a fine grasp of the numbers earlier didnt you? Trying to get us to believe what...the S&P only grew 2.8% per year? So how much should my S&P index fund show as a return for the last two years?

The economy is NOT BAD, see you later alligator.
Very true

Why would anyone be dumb enough to start a trade war in a strong economy?

This time you are mistaken. A trade war during a recession would be stupid.

The problem with this trade war is that Trump went to war against the whole world at the same time. Just imagine the leverage we could have had if the EU were on our side in the trade war against China. China would have caved a year ago.

But Trump is too stupid to understand that fighting a multi-front war is a losing proposition.

Truer words have not been spoken in this thread.

I provide only the facts, if you disagree with my figures show where I am wrong.

Since you seem to be sort of stupid, I would be happy to do the math for you since that is beyond your ability.

China cannot win a trade war with the United States. The US is not dependent on China. They have a large market but it is cash poor, unable to buy goods.

In contrast, China is very dependent on the US, who has the largest/most valuable market in the world. China needs us. We do not need China.

Fine. You do the math. Lets see it. What should my return be for 12 months? And for 24 months? Ending 8/6 or 8/5 or 8/1 of 2019...whatever you like.

Nobody wins a trade war. Economists have known this for decades.

I have no idea what your 401k is tied to, provide the data and I will do it.

As for the S&P, since you brought it up...

The S&P opened on 22 Jan 2018 (the start of Trump's 2nd year in office and the day of his first tariffs) at 2809.16
Yesterday it closed at 2881.77.

That is a growth of 72.61.

The formula for rate of growth is New - Old/Old.

72.61/2809.16= 2.58%. That is how much the S&P index has grown since the start of Trump's 2nd year in office...more than 560 days ago.

Right. Despite Golfing Gator s faith in communism they simply cannot. They are a backwards country weighed down by socialism burning through credit in a currency they dont control.
What they do have is propaganda, American businesses who will do anything for them, and Democrats willing to attack the US from behind if it hurts Trump. That last is the only thing still sustaining them.

So far that is not playing out the way you claim.

Who is going to buy the Ag products that China no longer buys? Where will our farmers find a billion new customers?

FALSE. China has won it over the US fror the past 30 years, while 4 US president fools gave China unrestricted access to our priceless MARKET, as well as an open border door to Mexico to burglarize our economy for 10s of Billions$$ per year. They're up to $30 Billion/yr in remittances (last count 2017), and $148/Billion/year worldwide. Click the link in Post # 142.

Sending us their resources for next to nothing is winning? Too funny.

But carry on your demoralization campaign. China appreciates it. Be sure and beat your show on the podium.

I ain't any smarter than I was a year ago when I posted this....

When it comes to China I question whether Trump (we) can win? That's due to my lack of understanding of economics, in particular how China goes about manipulating its currency, which I heard so much about throughout the years. If Trump imposes a 20% tariff on China and they devalue their currency by 20% does it come out as a wash while at the same time hikes the prices of American imports to China? I just don't know, am not pretending to.
I think Trump can win a trade war with China, so long as he doesn't go Hitler for a two-three front
Read this morning:
But as a retaliatory move to the new round of tariffs, China devalued its currency to an 11-year low and stopped purchases of U.S. farm products.
