So, why can't we solve our problems?

What good is a race hustler pimp if the races get along?....
What good is a tax and spender with nothing to spend?...
What good is a military industrial weapons manufacturer without a war.....

The fundamental problem? Politicians can be bought with campaign contributions.

Democrats work to change that system, Republicans work to retain it.

The solution? Vote for the good guys here.
Democrats are bought and paid for, through and through.

Once elected our leaders continue to campaign for the next election by refusing to produce laws and mandates that will address them. People have to be forced to do the right thing. However, this would result in the 'unelection' of those who write those needed laws next time around.

So, we suffer from two hammer blows, an irresponsible government and an irresponsible citizenry. The "blind leading the blind" and both ending up in the ditch.
Take all money out of politics. Have additional debates and have the moderator's better control the debate.

Democrats write the laws that cause our problem.

Because our "system" incentivizes and rewards the worst impulses of its participants.

It motivates them play to their bases for money and votes, instead of collaborating and innovating for the good of the country.
How would "collaborating" with thieves and thugs prevent you from being robbed?

Because people have become tribal and are unwilling to compromise for the greater good. Additionally, you have a population that is incredibly ignorant regarding the world around them.

What an awful outlook on life. Don't be afraid.

Dealing with other people really isn't all that difficult.
Dealing with thugs is always difficult. You and the other progs in here are good examples.

Republicans and "Independents" work so hard to defend the current corrupt system where politicians can be bought openly.

That's why everyone correctly concludes they adore the current corrupt system. If they didn't love it, why would they defend it?

Again, the root of the problem is that politicians can be openly bought. Is there anyone here actually denying that?

Having the government fund it wouldn't be an improvement.
