Something's missing from this site...

What was the point of all those 'heroic sacrifices' in Afganistan if after 14 years we withdraw and the Taliban moves right back into power? That's the kind of reality that makes that particular war completely indefensible. What was the point? There wasn't one.

Imagine this site in the mid-60s and 70s. What would you expect to see people threading about? ...It'll come to you.

Well in all fairness, the internet kinda sucked in the 1960s.

That's because you couldn't afford it

That's because AOL would send you those 30 day trials on a floppy disk, and you had to pay $400 a month afterwards.

In the 60s you had it to get it on reel to reel. And those things cost a fortune to ship. Even worse, Amazon didn't deliver on Sundays.

It was a dark time.

Without the draft and the dozens of body bags coming home every week, not many people seem to care about our adventures these days.

There's a body of scientific evidence that tv's coverage of those body bags and coffins coming off planes had a profound effect on American tolerance of the war. Or more precisely, intolerance of it.
Why I believe talking about honestly is so important. We show the bloody reality. If not for the horror or war there's little reason to object to it. But when you're constantly beinf reminded your loved ones are being blown apart that effects how you think about it.

True enough. Its one of the major Achilles heels of the US military. Probably one of its greatest strategic weaknesses: The low tolerance of Americans for casualties.

In order to fight a war you need two things: The capacity to. And the will to. Either alone is meaningless.

Been thinking about that recently with the Bengazzi stuff. America is losing every war it fights because Americans don't tolerate death of their own. Imagine if 11 ISIS were killed in a single airstrike. They'd put 100 drawings of everyone's face on the sides of buildings making martyrs of them. If that happened to US ground forces we'd impeach the President. 4 guys died in Bengazzi and it's huge fucking story for years. 4 ISIS die and it wouldn't even make the wires.

Benghazi may not be the best example. That was a situation that was intentionally stoked and carefully cultivated for political gain. I wouldn't consider it indicative of US tolerance for war dead.

Should we be going after Muhammad Ali and Kareem Abdul Jabbar? Those 2 are always beheading people.

Well you sort of got me there. Good one. They are complicit in their silence (as all Muslim are) or they make small token protest. We have had 50 modern years of terrorist activities. They now murder un-armed US soldiers on USA soil. Don't seem worth risk to allow them to open Mosque here, but we have. If things got much worse, I could see them forced out USA I suppose?

Total agreement. Same for all Iraq wars, if you don't have the will why bother. No nation building.

Umm.. we've had way more than 50 years Junior. 50 years ago it was the KKK, doing it to our own people. And it was nowhere near just beginning.

Benghazi isn't about war or about terrorism or about the military though. It's about scoring cheap points on a political football scoreboard the likes of which we didn't even have in the '60s.

You kids and your 'voice recognition'. Have you ever tried to type on an 8 track?!

WOW, the 60's would have caused the internet to simply crash, never to be revived. Imagine all having access to sites like this.....including us black folk too now...it would have been massive and quite interesting to take all in. Nigga's being able to tell a white man where to fuck off and doing it anonymously, it would have been something to behold....LOLOLO. The 70's, I was there and it would be boring here....all we did was get high, dance to disco and try to find a good job

Well, seemingly anonymously. Only novices believe they're anonymous online. ;)
