Lefties actually believe their own thought process, that our goal is to take power from them in Washington, and give it to one of our people, also in Washington. Duh!

If we manage to strip power from Washington, putting a republican in as opposed to a democrat means the same thing; mostly SQUAT! Go to the states where the power is SUPPOSED to be.

While I am not a big proponent of polls, I have been reading that it is "highly" likely that 3 or 4 more state legislatures are going to "flip" in 16 to our side. If my math skills are correct, that puts us very close to over the threshold needed to not only demand a convention, but control it, and pass it into law.

This means that for the 1st time, even if we lose, we still will win. We will feel like lefties, lol. And there is NOTHING they can do about it, short of ignoring the constitution.

The Constitution is functioning as intended by the Framers, its case law consistent with protecting the rights of citizens from government excess and overreach, and affording the people a republican form of government through the democratic political process; where should the people err in the political process and enact measures repugnant to the Constitution and its case law, those adversely effected are at liberty to seek relief in the courts to invalidate measures that manifest as indeed government excess and overreach.

The inalienable rights of the people are acknowledged and safeguarded by Constitutional jurisprudence, while recognizing the fact that although inalienable, the rights of citizens are not absolute, and subject to reasonable restrictions by government.

Consequently, there's no reason to interfere with a process that has worked well and efficiently since before the advent of the Republic.

A 'convention' is a 'solution' in search of a problem.

The states possess now the powers they've always possessed as intended by the Framers.

The states have always been subject to Federal laws, the rulings of Federal courts, and the Federal Constitution and its case law (see Article VI, US Cont.)

I understand what you are saying and that, I believe, is why the people have to pass all amendments to the Constitution.
Demanding a balanced budget is a wonderful idea for an amendment and I suggest another. Dispose if the confusion of the 14th amendment by stating anchor babies are not considered citizens if born in the US. The parents have to be legal citizens.

I will have to disagree with you respectfully because constitutions get rewritten all the time and it might not be a bad idea because there is so much disagreement about what a 200 year old document means that it might be a good idea to start fresh that way we can have an agreed upon meaning. There are some things in the current constitution that refer to things that are not an issue today such as there shall be no monarchy. Is anyone worried about that happening? There are also clauses that deal with the subject of slavery which is also a non issue. Some of the terms are old terms that no one, except for historians, know what they mean. Capitation is a good example.

The cons are that we may not be able to agree on certain concepts such as what are the source of our rights. Are they God-given or agreed upon by our our society. Taxes are another issue. What about existing laws. Which ones do we scrap or keep. What about treaties? Lots of cons.

I think we should amend the constitution with rules of construction that clarify what some parts of the constitution mean. The second amendment can use a rule of construction to end what it means so we can all move on. This was done with the eleventh amendment so we could do the same with other amendments.

Seawytch, I read your five reasons and take them seriously. I think we have serious fiscal problems in this nation and still, a balanced budget has to be part of the solution. Rather than increasing our budget endlessly as it seems, cutting spending on non important issues has to be part of the solution. Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid have to be mentioned in the amendment that there is no cutting of these funds.

Also, limiting the actions Congress can use would be helpful in deterring "end arounds" the newly formed amendment.

"...or to the People". I doubt very much that the founders anticipated a bloodless coup where gerrymandering created an Authoritarian form of governance in the smaller states, allowing them to circumvent the will of the majority.

That's what has happened, and along with the Supreme Courts rulings in CU and McCutcheon v. It is NOT a new constitution. This is not a Con-Con, it is an article 5 meeting. All they can do is suggest amendments to the current constitution, and then 3/4 of the states need ratify them.

There is absolutely NOTHING to be afraid of! The states driving it have set an agenda on what they will, and will not discuss. One is a balanced budget amendment. And consider............every day our constitution is changing because we won't do anything but let the left have its way. Does the President have to enforce the laws of the land enacted by congress? Not if he has a pen and a phone, and I guess that is not against the constitution, because nowhere in the constitution does it mention a pen and a phone, therefore, it is NOT against original intent.

Actually there is no need to have a centralized convention, each State can hold their own convention. If three quarters of the States approve the same proposal it becomes law. If they don't it won't.

Also, don't take my word for it, go to convention of the states.com and learn what they are doing, and why they are doing it. I think you will change your mind rather quickly. If taking a bunch of Washingtons power and spreading it around between thousands of people in our states, our heartland, is a bad thing, then maybe we need elect a king, or leave Obama in power for another term. NOTHING is going to change unless WE change it, and WE can not change it, as long as Washington holds the power. It is just that simple.
