Replace them with monuments to Civil Rights leaders and monuments honoring the struggles of slaves

A statue honoring civil rights hero and US Congressman John Lewis is being unveiled Saturday outside of Atlanta, replacing a Confederate monument that had stood there for more than a century.

Renowned Jamaican sculptor Basil Watson created the statue, coined the John Lewis Memorial. It was installed August 16 in Decatur Square in front of the Historic Decatur Courthouse.

You dont have to tear down one monument to put up another. Im not a Southerner and have no family there, I think the battle to end all slavery was the righteous one, YET, Im completely over the civil war now... I have no grudge against descendants of the Confederate South. If someone wants to have a monument to some Southern General thats fine and it shouldnt bother you.

The Healing process of the post Civil War required both sides to consider the other. It goes both ways. Of course there are many failures along that timeline, but we are supposed to be more advanced by now and not once again descending into tit for tat reprisals.Not always Looking for something to be offended for. The confederacy was not America. Confederate statues were built 60-70 years after the war ended to show white supremacy. They need to be torn down just like Nazi monuments are torn down in Germany. The confederacy represented something that was even worse than what Hitler did and for a much longer time.
