Statue of John Lewis to replace Confederate Monument

I know who he was, do you? He was a good little democrat house....slave. Always counted on to be on the mark. I also know that the democrat party did everything they could to contninue segregation. Jim crow laws, lynchings of blacks and republicans who wanted equal rights for blacks. Now you want to idolize these folk when you were the ones that wanted to keep them in chains. You're hypocrites. LOLOL He was paid well.
Another dumb ass Republican repeating a lie. Republicans didn't want equal rights for blacks. They were no different than democrats during those times. And todays Republican party opposes any type of equal rights.

Then if you don't understand what he did to deserve a statue, his name is all you know.
There were thousands that did as much if not more than he did...WHY does he get a statue?
I'll tell you...democrat moral superiority....hypocrites. Dems don't care a jot about the man except for what value his statue is to their party interests. like you do too.

you are as stupid about history as you are about current events.

It's called history Zinc. There are lots of things in world history and our history that ain't pretty but it's history. Your irrational hatred of White people is obvious and you should NOT be a mod.
That poster is not a moderator. I’ve long had it on Ignore for its zero substance posts.

States have the right to change their minds about history. The only problem is when radical elements and the media combine with a corrupt government to encourage it.

The problem was that corrupt governments and media conspired to erect monuments honoring a government that oppressed 40 percent of its population

All over the objections of the oppressed who were not allowed to vote

There is no substance in this thread from the posters who support removing confederate statues. They are trolls and arrogant of history. Blacks, Indian Indians, and Jews owned slaves, just like white people did.

Again Black people owned slaves.

Many of the Confederate soldiers were honorable Christians. The USA is not the only country to have gone through a Civil War. In The US Civil War brother fight against brother, father against son. And the sheer level of disrespect and arrogance that the radical left has for this topic is there for all to see.

“The CSA were traitors , your a racist”

^That is the level of intelligence from the radical left in this thread. They have no idea what they’re talking about and no substance.

Most confederate soldiers did not even own slaves. This is a poor logic from the left in this thread. They get all their talking points from the radical BLM.

The left lies every day about this topic. Claiming that the opposite side supports slavery or “putting blacks back into chains” . It’s a blatant lie as they have nothing else to bring to the topic.

Many of the Confederate soldiers were honorable Christians. They cannot be discredited because some of their leaders supported slavery. Most confederate soldiers did not even own slaves. This is a horrific logic from the left thread. They have no idea what they’re talking about. They get all their talking points from radical BLM filth.
Lost Cause Rhetoric which rewrote the history of the Civil War

The radical left has a one sided approach to this topic. It is vehemently racist in their part. Are they asking for statues of Africans who owned slaves to be removed? No, they are not …so they lose every bit of credibility in this topic. They launch unprovoked personal attacks against people all the time in the topic.

Just ask them…. they don’t care about slaves who suffered in Africa or Asia or places other than America.

We do not have monuments to those who enslaved people in Asia or Africa

Sometimes you have to laugh at the attempts to obscure history. In Lexington Va. The Virginia Military Institute (VMI) is still around but the Institute prefers to forget the fact that a class of VMI cadets fought with the Confederacy and defeated the Union at New Market. They no longer read the honored New Market dead at roll call. Next door in Lexington we have Washington & Lee University. The radicals tried to get rid of the second name but tradition is sometimes stronger than political bias. Lee's crypt used to be open to the public but I think they have it walled off. They changed the name of Stonewall cemetery to Lexington cemetery. Civil War related tourism used to be important to Lexington but the liberal carpet bag merchants prefer to cut their own economic throats and disregard history for a political agenda.

Republicans authored an amendment to officially make slavery a constitutionally protected activity. The Republican Party is the party of The Corwin Amendment that would have cemented slavery as a constitutional right.

A Republican president, with the support of the Republican Party, ended reconstruction. The Republican Party is the party of the 1877 Compromise that ended reconstruction and paved the way for Jim Crow.

Once blacks got a foothold in the Republican party and gained some semblance of political equality, white Republicans took steps to purge blacks from leadership positions. The Republican Party is the party of the Lily White movement, a group of Republicans who worked to purge blacks from the party.

Republicans consistently broke promises or ignored issues that affected black people. When blacks got Civil Rights, the Republican Party did not believe that was civil or right and decided that extremism in defense of liberty was no vice. In 1964 the Republican Party turned its back on blacks after nearly 100 years of black support.

Some of today’s Republicans love telling a tale about republican support for the Civil Rights and Voting Rights act. They tak about the dixiecrat filibuster and will say that by percentage more democrats opposed these bills than republicans. But percentages are not people.

As it pertains to the Civil Rights Act, 153 democrats and 139 republicans voted in favor of the legislation in the house.

In the senate, forty-six democrats and twenty-seven republicans voted for the Civil Rights Act.

In the house, 221 democrats voted for the Voting Rights Act, and 112 republicans did.

In the senate, forty-seven democrats voted for the Voting Rights Act, and thirty republicans.

On December 6, 2019, The House of Representatives passed H.R. 4, the Voting Rights Advancement Act of 2019, by a vote of 228-186. There were 187 Republicans in the House of Representatives in 2019. One Republican voted for this bill.

In 2021, The John Lewis Voting Rights Act was opposed by every Republican in the senate. Senate Republicans filibustered the John Lewis Voting Rights Act like Dixiecrats did the Voting Rights Act in 1965.

Today’s Republican Party is controlled by a racist Anti-Black base.

I know the history. You don't. All you do is repeat the right wing lie.

We're talking about human rights. Where is the Nat Turner crypt to be viewed by the public? It doesn't exist. White supremacy should not continue to drive economic decisions.

imagine being so damn dense and perverse that YOU can't even make sense of the way the world is going and it is not going to benefit YOU in the least.
Changing the way the world has gone benefits everyone.

Confederacy tried to break away from the union because they really wanted to keep the slaves they own.

All men are created equal except when people are owned by other people.

That is honorable to some.
The confederacy tried to break away from the Union because of the economic vise the Northern Mills put on the cotton growers. Slavery would have ended in a relatively short time as it ended in every other slave holding country. With the advent of the Industrial Revolution, slaves were simply too expensive to maintain.

While slavery is abhorrent to civilized people, it has to be recognized that slavery was practiced world wide and by every people. Slavery is still practiced in Africa and the Middle East.

I really don't care very much about ancient slavery. I am as unconcerned about black field hands as I am about Thracians in the Roman mines.

The industrial revolution made slavery too expensive to continue.
The tecnical revolution now is making low wage workers too expensive to continue. Already the low wage farm workers are being replaced by machines just as slaves were replaced by machines.

We should do this with all Confederate Monuments
Replace them with monuments to Civil Rights leaders and monuments honoring the struggles of slaves

A statue honoring civil rights hero and US Congressman John Lewis is being unveiled Saturday outside of Atlanta, replacing a Confederate monument that had stood there for more than a century.

Renowned Jamaican sculptor Basil Watson created the statue, coined the John Lewis Memorial. It was installed August 16 in Decatur Square in front of the Historic Decatur Courthouse.
Cool. A new paintball target.
