Temporary jobs becoming a permanent fixture in US as more employers seek 'just-in-time'
......

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Hiring is exploding in the one corner of the U.S. economy where few want to be hired: Temporary work.

From Wal-Mart to General Motors to PepsiCo, companies are increasingly turning to temps and to a much larger universe of freelancers, contract workers and consultants. Combined, these workers number nearly 17 million people who have only tenuous ties to the companies that pay them — about 12 percent of everyone with a job.

Hiring is always healthy for an economy. Yet the rise in temp and contract work shows that many employers aren't willing to hire for the long run.

This is how they'll get around Obamacare.....they don't have to give temps any benefits.

Due to increased regulations like (but not limited to Obamacare) at all levels of government the cost of keeping a full time employee keeps going up. By using freelancers as "independent contractors" the companies can pass all that overhead to the freelancer. This of course negates the entire purpose of most of the regulations, and thus makes the regulations moot.

and the one big constant the freelancers do not have to cover is mandatory health care. This is exactly what the right cautioned from the start.

the number of poor will increase......less job income plus paying for their own insurance/fine...

many people will now have to find 2 jobs in order to meet costs.....

the hassle of 2 jobs will also have a negative effect on families.....

do you think BO cares....?

of course not. he just wanted to say he delivered on healthcare.

Yep, 29 hours a week will be your max.

that's the max for one job....

but many people (especially single mothers) will need to take on 2 jobs so they will wind up working 58+hours per week which will destroy their family lives.....

but then that's the plan isn't it....? to keep workers' noses to the grindstone and place the children into government-run facilities so they can train them for the Left's grand vision of the future...:eusa_shhh:

And the stock market was going to collapse, Romney would destroy Obama in 2012, Obamacare will be ruled unconstitutional......You guys are so good at predictions, I mean, Who wouldn't listen to you?

now if you had listened, we wouldn't be in this mess.

nothing like trillions of fake money to create the leftie Grand Illusion that you obviously believe in...

This is how they'll get around Obamacare.....they don't have to give temps any benefits.

Yep...as well as seasonal employees.
Lowes has had seasonal summer employees for years, my son is working there this summer before he goes to college in the fall. He is working 10 and 11 hour days, over 40 hours per week. Meanwhile all permanent part-time people got their hours cut to 28 hours.
Sooo...what did Lowes do? They now have summer and winter "seasonal' employment opportunities. Effectively, a part-timer can reapply for a "seasonal" position and get as many hours as he/she can. And when the season is over, they simply reapply for the next seasonal position.
Ingenious.

you can bet the lefties are counting those as 'new' jobs.....

brilliant.....take a steady full-time job and create two 'new' jobs.....

As well as removing all benefits. Seasonal employees are not offered insurance.

makes you wonder if this wasn't the objective all along.

I think it was....the big companies can keep more of their money. Obama isn't stupid, he's sly. I'd like to hear something from the lefties on this....wonder how they're going to spin this one!

all part of the marxist plan.....it's easier to control big companies.....which is why the middle class and all those decent jobs the small business owner creates must be hampered, curtailed, limited, and/or 'taxed' out of existence....

makes you wonder why OWS suddenly disapeared, lost all of their funding and coverage once obama was reelected.
