Empathy is an ancient automatic process, like a reflex, which causes us to have the same emotions as others around us, though at reduced intensity. As an automatic process, we can repress the feelings from empathy but not get rid of them. Emotions which are repressed tend to make it back out of the unconscious mind in a disguised way.
If the top executives and major shareholders of the giant corporations, many larger than most nations if we could gross receipts as equivalent to GDPs, succeed in pushing the majority of people down to a third world level, then that will produce massive suffering and fear almost everywhere. The conservative wealthy will then have no choice but to feel empathy with that suffering and fear. No doubt they will try to repress the feelings of suffering and fear in themselves from the empathy process, but that won't really help. The suffering and fear will from time to time emerge from their unconscious minds and create many moments of unpleasant feelings and anxiety. In addition, the entire tone of their moods will be less happy and less relaxed.
Therefore, if the conservatives among the wealthy manage to do such a thing to the majority of the population , they will suffer unpleasant empathy jolts for the rest of their lives, as will their heirs.
