The aftermath of Trump's acquittal in his second impeachment trial

The Republican Party has given a free pass to future Presidents for anything they might do in the closing days of their term of office. A former President incited an insurrection against our government during the closing days of his term of office. It doesn't get worse than that.

The Republican Party acquitted the former President!

ABC News reported, "Exactly a month and a week after insurrectionists incited a riot at the Capitol on Jan. 6, former President Donald Trump's second impeachment trial came to a climactic end on Saturday afternoon, with Trump being acquitted for his alleged role of inciting the deadly event. A majority of senators voted to convict the former president, but failed to reach the super majority threshold needed for a conviction."

To provide an example of the perfidy of the Republican Party one need only look at the Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell. Despite the opinions of nearly all Constitution experts Constitution lawyers to the contrary, McConnell said "he voted "not guilty" because he believes Trump is "constitutionally not eligible for conviction" given that he is no longer president," according to NBC News.

In addition, a Senate resolution established the Senate's jurisdiction in the impeachment trial. McConnell and most Republicans violated a Senate resolution. McConnell said nothing about the evidence. He couldn't. The evidence was overwhelming.

The American people have already spoken, but the Republican Party is not paying attention. Under their leadership, the Republican Party has lost the House, Senate, and the White House in just the last four years.

Now this. A Republican President committed an act of sedition, and the Republican Party freed him from consequences. With the precedence set, all future Presidents are free of responsibility for any action they might take in the closing days of their term.

It is easy to surmise this might be opening act of the decline of American democracy.

America will never be destroyed from the outside. If we lose our freedoms it will be because we have destroyed ourselves from within. Abraham Lincoln

The American people will remember this day. The Republican Party lost with this feckless decision.

Ignore the jerks who used emoticons to mock your post. The truth rings from coast to coast and you hit a homerun with this thread. I hope everyone reads and understands that Donald Trump is the worst person to ever serve as POTUS.

Agreed that Trump is the worst "person" to ever serve as president.
As General Kelly said, "he is a very flawed man".
Personal faults aside, Trump's policies were better for the US and the working class than anything the democrats have done.

What Xiden and the democrats have done is open borders, China first globalist policies, killing US energy jobs, and "big brother" style censorship. The US oligarchs and China are now running the US.

List the policies and their effect on the working class that were improved by Trump? The Tax "Reform" Bill he signed, written by the lame duck H. of Rep. eliminated the top two tax brackets, and doubled the Standard Deduction which will sunset in 2027; of course the two top tax brackets will remain deleted. Corporations got a great deal, some don't even pay a penny in the Federal Income Tax. Is this a policy which is better for the working class?

The middle class too is paying more, sense the State Income Tax and Real Estate Tax deductions were cut to $10,000. Thus, we are paying in the next highest tax bracket, and each year will pay more in taxes and fees as the states are hurting do to the burden of the pandemic.

Some are wondering why impeach a former President? What is the point?

There is the disgrace of being the only President in American history to be convicted in an impeachment trial. It is a legacy said President will take to his grave.

With a resolution that can be passed by a simple majority in the Senate, said President is barred forever running for office again. In this case, Trump's dream of running for President in 2024 goes away.

There are probably an assortment of other ramifications of being impeached. We just don't know what they are. We've never had an impeached President. Trump would have been the first.

Impeached or not, a President who led an insurrection attempt against his own government most likely would be tried in federal court for sedition. There is every likelihood that is in Trump's future.

There is no doubt in my mind that the DOJ is looking into this matter.

Real wages rose for the first time in decades because Trump kept cheap labor out, and brought jobs back to the US instead of outsourcing them. The AFL-CIO got played by the democrats. They lost jobs, and open borders means lower wages. That was plain stupid. Here is a link that explains the TIME article:

This pact between the AFL-CIO and the Chamber of Commerce was launched back in 2019, according to the article, and it included many other groups. Participation in the pact had nothing to do with President Trump opposing the election results or the pandemic. For example, the Chamber of Commerce couldn’t stand President Trump’s trade policies that put American workers first and caused wages to rise for the first time in years. The administration’s tough stance on immigration compounded the Chamber’s opposition by preventing employers from importing cheap foreign labor. Trump’s China policy was also a hurdle, especially as it became more punitive as the national security threat the Chinese Communist Party poses became evident.

I don't believe that. This was a highly unusual situation that I don't believe 99% of politicians would want associated with their names or would consider repeating. Besides, it didn't set any new precedents. Any impeachment is still subject to a trial, regardless if you've quit or ended your term. The partisan outcome of both of T****'s impeachment trials has been no different than the partisan outcome of every impeachment trial we've had in the past.

The fascist right bears watching, but not obsessing over. If they give trouble, we'll deal with it when it comes. Spending all our time staring at the wreckage and fussing over it isn't going to get us anywhere. Biden has taken out the brooms, let's give him a hand and quit spending all our energy on the losers.

Pelosi is the 1st Speaker in US History to initiate / run 2 FAILED Impeachment attempts

Pelosi is the 1st Speaker in US History to initiate / run 2 FAILED Impeachment attempts against the SAME President

Pelosi is the 1st Speaker to continuously lead the Democrats into embarrassing failure after embarrassing failure yet they keep voting for her to keep leading them

Democrats are the 1st Party / Politicians to be exposed for 2 (TWO) BOGUS Impeachments based on proven/ exposed LIES, PROPAGANDA, FALSE NARRATIVES, & POLITICAL PARTISANSHIP

VP Harris is the 1st VP in US history to PUBLICLY (sorry Barry) aid, abet, & facilitate foreign-funded domestic terrorism against the US and US citizens (which caused billions of dollars in damage) by bailing out terrorists after they had been arrested to put them back on the street to commit more terrorist acts...

Harris is also the 1st VP to Incite foreign-funded domestic terrorism, encouraging them to continue committing acts of terrorism and violence after the election

Pelosi is the 1st Speaker to allow violent riots and attacks inside the Capitol, despite being warned it was coming, jeopardizing lives and security to affect violent political theatrics to set up the scam Impeachment

A 13-minute video exposed Democrats as the REAL threats to our nation and citizens, as the world watch Democrats issue threats, admit to issuing threats, to citizens, USSC Hustices, & the President & more

Democrats and Never-Trumpers are more terrified of Trump than ever before after their last-ditch effort to eliminate him as a future political threat went up in flames in front of the entire world...

Snowflajes, if possible, are more delusional and seething with more irrational hate than ever before, taking their anger at the pathetic, treasonous incompetence of their own criminal leaders who tried to Impeach again ..and FAILED again.
What foreign funded domestic terrorism? Keep it short.

Judgement in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor, Trust or Profit under the United States: but the Party convicted shall nevertheless be liable and subject to Indictment, Trial, Judgement and Punishment, according to Law.
Article 2, Section 4
The President, Vice President and all Civil Officers of the United States, shall be removed from Office on Impeachment for, and Conviction of, Treason, Bribery, or other high Crimes and Misdemeanors.

Neither clause forbids the impeachment of a former President. For example, there was no attempt to punish Trump more than removal from office (unnecessary in this case) and disqualification.

Try again.

You had no case.
You are 100% right. I will remember this day as a triumph over a vindictive, juvenile democrat party that showed their asses for four years.
What an idiotic and slanderous OP! Lies for the purpose of propaganda! Nasty!

Do I believe you, or do I believe the Republican House Minority Leader? “The president bears responsibility for Wednesday’s attack on Congress by mob rioters. He should have immediately denounced the mob when he saw what was unfolding,” Rep. Kevin McCarthy. House Minority Leader McCarthy blames Trump for riot but opposes impeachment

Do I believe you, or do I believe the third ranking Republican in the House? "I think that the people in the party are mistaken. They believe that [Black Lives Matter] and Antifa were behind what happened here at the Capitol. That's just simply not the case, it's not true. People have been lied to. The extent to which President Trump, for months leading up to Jan. 6, spread the notion that the election had been stolen or that the election was rigged was a lie, and people need to understand that," Liz Cheney told Fox News Sunday.
Do I believe you, or do I believe the Republican Senate Minority Leader? “There is no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the event of that day," McConnell said. He called that assault a “foreseeable consequence” of Trump using the presidency, calling it “the largest megaphone on Planet Earth.” Rather than calling off the rioters, McConnell accused Trump of “praising the criminals” and seeming determined to overturn the election “or else torch our institutions on the way out.” GOP's McConnell: Trump Morally Responsible for Jan. 6 Attack

Or are you going to label these dedicated conservatives a bunch of RINO's?

CNN reports, "House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in a letter to House Democrats on Monday plans for the creation of a "9/11-type commission" to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

"To protect our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type Commission to 'investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex,'" Pelosi wrote.

"A commission of this nature would be established by a statute, passed by both chambers and signed into law by the President. The commission members would not be elected leaders and would be outside the government.

A factor that many are interested in is, did Trump have any communication with the Pentagon? There were warnings. Why were they ignored. Why was there a delay in the National Guard response?

The Defense Department is facing scrutiny over its role in the events that took place on Jan. 6 after the D.C. government and Capitol Police accused Pentagon officials of slow-walking an emergency call for National Guard reinforcements as rioters threatened to breach the capitol.

Why did a security breakdown take place, leaving the Capitol all but defenseless against a marauding group of pro-Trump rioters?

You try again. I can't help you don't know how to read the Constitution. Your TDS must have really fucked you up. Its not that complex a phrase. Look at it again:
Judgement in Cases of Impeachment shall not extend further than to removal from Office, and disqualification to hold and enjoy any Office of honor...

You can try to contort the words, but they are clear. "Removal" comes first, then there is an "and".

Your problem is that Trump did NOT break any law that he could be indicted for in a real court, so your TDS just won't let you keep grasping at straws, where there are none.

Who is responsible for the capitol police operations? The Chief of Police.
Why a 9/11 Commission, when the responsibilities are clear?
If more police help is needed she ( Yogananda) should have requested help.
There is no direct link from the capitol police to the president.

"Additionally, the capitol police are charged with the protection of members of Congress, officers of Congress, and their families throughout the entire United States, its territories and possessions, and the District of Columbia. While performing protective functions, the Capitol Police have jurisdiction throughout the entire United States.

"The Chief of Police is responsible for administering the Department in accordance with applicable laws and regulations, and ensuring that organizational objectives are met. The Chief reports directly to the Capitol Police Board and is assisted in the management of the Department by the Assistant Chiefs of Police and the Chief Administrative Officer. These leaders collectively are recognized as the United States Capitol Police Executive Team, the highest-level management team within the Department."

The president does not have a "Praetorian Guard" that he could send to help at the capitol.

What the hell, she's already wasted over $5T, what's a few hundred million more. Piglosi should be impeached.

A former President incited an insurrection against our government during the closing days of his term of office.
Charge him in criminal court!
Good luck with, none of the democratic case met the minimum standards to be entered into evidence in a real court of law.

Oh, you are so full of partisan bullshit! In every trial the jury is told during voir dire they should use their common sense. The Managers did an expert job in presenting the case; sadly, the defendant (Trump) poisoned the jury, engaging in Jury tampering.

Your man-child trump has lots of worrying to do.
